President #Biden said in an interview on #60Minutes that a new #Israel #occupation of #Gaza would be “a big mistake,” comments that came as Israel is expected to launch a ground invasion of the #Palestinian enclave.

“I think it’d be a big mistake. #Hamas & the extreme elements of Hamas don’t represent all the Palestinian people. And I think that…it would be a mistake…for Israel to occupy…Gaza again.”

President Biden’s warning against reoccupying #Gaza amounted to one of his firmest efforts so far to impose a limit on #Israel’s actions in retaliation for #Hamas attacks. He added, “Going in but taking out the #extremists is a necessary requirement.”

Asked whether he could foresee sending American troops to the #MiddleEast, #Biden said he did not think it was necessary, adding that Israel has “one of the finest fighting forces" & the #UnitedStates would “provide them everything they need.”

#Biden sought to draw a distinction between #Hamas & ordinary #Palestinians who are facing dire conditions in the enclave of >2M people, >½ of whom are children.

He added: “There needs to be a #PalestinianAuthority. There needs to be a path to a #PalestinianState.”

Biden & top ofcls are working to secure #HumanitarianCorridors into #Gaza for fuel & food to enter. Israel’s energy min, Israel Katz, said Sun that #Netanyahu & Biden have reached a deal to restore water to some parts of S. Gaza.

I agree. the Palestinians have been forced to live with Hamas. They have not been a threat to Israel in several yrs. They shouldn't be exterminated along with Hamas. imho.
