Not a 🚆 revolution but still very good news: direct train from Amsterdam to Copenhagen from December 2025.

Current trip is >10 hrs and involves min 2 changes.

This is an improvement. Now let’s work to reduce the duration, and have a high frequency and low price 🇩🇰 🇩🇪 🇳🇱

New direct train connection between Amsterdam and Copenhagen as of 2025

For those who would like to arrive faster in Copenhagen to see the breathtaking architecture or eat delicious cinnamon buns, can look forward to the new rail connection of the Danish Railways (DSB). That's because DSB is planning a direct train between Amsterdam and Copenhagen in 2026. This schedule will begin in mid-December 2025, Treinreiziger.nl reports.

@claesdevreese @ErikJonker I'd prefer this to flying when going to Mamlö

@claesdevreese

Kijk @May_Mulder , dat is nog eens gode nyheder. Det er fantastisk!

@claesdevreese o.m.g.

That would be *so nice* (as I wait on the platform in Copenhagen for an already delayed train that is not going directly to Hamburg and will probably therefore miss all my onward connections on the way to Amersfoort...)

@claesdevreese it would be even better if they restarted the CPH - AMS sleeper train!
@claesdevreese in principle would also open up the Eurostar connection to London too.

@Ruth_Mottram I think that requires reversing brexit, or the UK signing up specially to Eurostat.

Until then we'll have to live with the UK being greyed out on all the published maps

@stenhaastrup ho ho ho... will edit! 😆

@stenhaastrup @Ruth_Mottram

Eurostar still runs, though at about a third the capacity.

@claesdevreese I'd still like to see public transportation reestablished in my area though. The region withdrew it to pay for expensive infrastructure in the nearby larger city, leaving everyone in my area not owning a car stranded.
@claesdevreese
And when the Fehmarn Belt tunnel opens in 2029, that's another 2 hours and 10 minutes saved. i.e. less than 7½ hours.
Still a whole day or night, but a stark difference from 10+ hours and at least 2 changes.
@claesdevreese hopefully a direct train to Berlin at some point. Have to change once and impossible to book seats.
@TommyW @claesdevreese
Considering there's a direct (sleeper) train even from Stockholm to Berlin, that would make sense yes.
@Gurre @TommyW @claesdevreese If everything goes as planned, there will be direct trains Copenhagen-Berlin-Prague from December 2025.
@claesdevreese We had them 36 years ago. Does anyone know why they got cancelled?
@madies @claesdevreese Maybe about when planes became cheap and popular? Just guessing.
@claesdevreese Hopefully it will make stops in major cities inbetween. Like Odense
@claesdevreese The article makes it sound it is a done deal, unfortunately it is not yet. They are planning to introduce direct trains between Amsterdam and Copenhagen, but there are still hurdles that need to be solved.
