"NOBODY WANTS TO WORK ANY MORE!"

A brief history of capitalists complaining that nobody wants to work for starvation wages Image by @paulisci

@Miriamm Omfg

"Disgusted businessman".

I'm heaving.

@Miriamm I don't want to work any more, not for capitalists
@Miriamm I love the blind ignoring of the evidence that if you want people to be unproductive, you should both give the bosses big bonuses for doing SFA and keep everyone else's wages down as low as your competitors will let you get away with, by not pinching them by paying more.
@Miriamm The martyr complex is very important to right wing identity.
@Miriamm No voice as loud and clear as the voice of history.
@Miriamm shocker: OF COURSE NOBODY WANTS TO WORK, there’s a reason vacation and retirement are so romanticized. It’s not normal to want to *work.* People may want to make things, or to be creative, or to solve problems, or to care for people, but they don’t want “to work.” 🙄

@Miriamm They are right!

The ruling class, company owners, the oppressors are saying the truth, they have just missed 3 words:

"Nobody wants to work any more FOR BEING EXPLOITED"

@Miriamm
Like… Yeah, I honestly don’t. I work, because I gotta earn some sort of living, but would I rather just do some random weirdness all day every day? FUUUUUCK YES! Fuck work. It’s a necessary evil, not the end goal.
@Miriamm Pompeii graffiti: nemo vult laborare amplius
@Miriamm In my country, Spain, those capitalist and neoliberal people say that and also add: Spain is breaking up!!!!
@Miriamm you should extend that back to the reconstruction era and a certain group of people whose desire not to work like they had been working was described exactly that way
@Miriamm and yet, they somehow all believe that it's true NOW, not like before. Their hatred for young people is so blatant.

@Miriamm
Wasnt there a stone/clay tablet somewhere saying similar things before 0 CE even? Maybe i dreamt it but i couldve swore i read about it somewhere
@Miriamm
And nothing has changed since 1894
@Miriamm in Brazil is the same too begining from politcs
@Miriamm "Never in the field of human work was so much owed by so few to so many who do not want to work and starve any more."
@Miriamm Nobody wants to pay wages anymore
@Miriamm Imagine saying "Nobody wants to work anymore" while WW2 is happening
@Miriamm Oh! Just noticed you were over here too, heya.
@Miriamm In Spain we have people like this shithead, the president of hospitality industry -> Randomly working 10 - 12 hours depending on what the employer needs is called "flexibility" 💀

@Miriamm

Billionaires have comforting narratives that they tell themselves to justify their greed & cruelty.

Favorites are those about the long held belief of the "lazy slave" and "undeserving poor".

@Npars01 @Miriamm A significant issue is the one-sided nature of being able to promote this narrative.

@grabe @Miriamm

Malign influence campaigns don't come for free.

I notice the innumerable narratives about the homeless, addicted, unemployed, mentally ill, single childless women, incels living in their mothers basements, poor, indebted, avocado-eating college students, welfare queens, "illegals", "globalists", and other examples of people you're supposed to dehumanize at the order of a tax-evading seditious billionaire.

All narratives intended to distract from what GOP billionaire donors do

@Npars01
@Miriamm

Don't forget the new branding of "longtermism". The idea that being cruel and selfish is "good for humanity's long-term survival"

@wryanfisher @Miriamm

According to E.O. Wilson's work on eusocial species, it is the cooperative & social sharing species that have existed the longest. Ants. Bees.

Humans are one of the few non-insect eusocial species.

Humans survived several population bottlenecks because of our eusocial behavior, while our other primate cousins went extinct. Cro-Magnon, Denisovian, Neanderthal.

In crises, selfish behavior reduces survival rates, even of the selfish.

Longtermism is an anti-survival cult.

@Miriamm I believe Michael Stevens from Vsauce refers to this as faux-neo
@Miriamm and the lazy bosses always refuse to work!
@Miriamm thanks for this enlightenment!

@Miriamm JFF, I looked this up; Snopes had the receipts:

@Miriamm Bosses who would never work in their own companies complain that nobody wants to work in their companies. 🤦🏼‍♀️
@Miriamm I don't want to work any more so they're right about me, at least

@Miriamm

+👍

Chef's kiss perfect.

@Miriamm Kapitalismus und sein größtes Nachtmar! 🤭
@Miriamm maybe the CEOs should do a 'proper days work, for a proper days wages" then?
@Miriamm
"Pay cuts motivates the poor,
whereas pay raises motivate the rich."
How convenient!!
@Miriamm Let us pray that OpenAI will save us!

@Miriamm

Could it be that no one wants to break their backs to make them richer hoping for meat on the bones they throw at us?

Ayn Rand was right, only we, the workers are Atlas

@Miriamm love that you edited this to add the source after learning where it's from, shows great integrity 🖖

@Miriamm @paulisci

It's the "everything used to be better" syndrome that comes to some with old age...

@Miriamm @paulisci

"I remember a golden age when people would work for assholes like me..."

@Miriamm @paulisci I am semi retired by choice. Why work for peanuts. I would rather collect welfare than work for someone who doesn’t believe I have a life outside of the work place.
@Miriamm @paulisci Surprisingly, people DO want to work. They just don't want to work for YOU.
@Miriamm @paulisci I mean I don't want to work anymore either but that's because I dreamed of a Utopia where work is not necessary. I'll keep dreaming!
@Miriamm @paulisci They really miss the days of workhouses, don't they?

@Miriamm @paulisci

The truly fucked thing is the further back you go, the less troubled by enclosure & deconstruction/commodification of 'third spaces' (the public spaces that are free or at least cheap for people to congregate, interact, & relax) the working class is.

There is so much more paved over land that could have been food & medicine foraging sites. Fewer parks & pubs for human connection. Less time to cultivate either.

Wage slavery was unacceptable then. Even MORE unacceptable now.

@Miriamm @paulisci Also totally love how this parallels the Industrial Revolution and, y'know, the mass adoption of labor-saving technology. The stuff that keeps getting marketed as the thing that will eliminate unnecessary drudgery and toil. But that mysteriously, seems to only make capitalists demand more out of labor.

Productivity for the Productivity God, Skulls for the Skull Throne vibes.

@Miriamm @paulisci could be. But aren‘t there articles showing us: Nonody wants to pay anymore…
@Miriamm @paulisci lol, everyone wants a job, no one wants to work... classical copium...
@Miriamm @paulisci Love this post , was just having this same conversation with someone. People not wanting to work gets reserected as much as stories on dieting the coming financial crash 💥
