I know that some people in my communities may disagree with me on this issue, but I refuse to knowingly spend any of my money with companies located or headquartered in states which are actively attacking the equal human rights of #women and #LGBT people.

If your state has restrictive #abortion laws or is attacking #transgender people, you don't get my money.

This is what it means to be a #libertarian #feminist. Without #Equality, there is no #Liberty. I will not be a party to oppression.

Not only will I not buy from companies located in such states, I will not use their products, even if I already own them, because I don't want people to see me using them and concur from my so doing that I condone or endorse the oppression of women, LGBT people, and other vulnerable minorities. #boycott #boycotthate #mychoicemyright #mybodymychoice #thebuckstopshere
@gcvsa I mean...I get the idea, I guess, and of course I support your right to spend your money as you see fit. But it does seem like where the company is located might not be a super simple thing for the people in the company to change. I can easily imagine a company owned by, for example, a lesbian couple that's headquartered in one of the states you object to, because they live there.

@AlexanderKingsbury Usually the first objection raised is, "but what about all the LGBT people in those places?"

Well, they can move. They chose to live there, and if they didn't choose it, then I am happy to work toward efforts to support relocation. I think this should be supported in the private sector, the nonprofit sector, and at the state levelβ€”even the personal level, which is why I have put out the word to personal friends that I have room in my house.

It's time to stop making excuses.

@AlexanderKingsbury We have to stop pretending we can rescue the lives of people in what are rapidly becoming foreign countries that don't respect equal human rights. We're not going to dislodge the Republicans from dominance, and they aren't going to change course.

The best we can do is shore up our own states, and welcome the refugees. Because the alternative is almost certainly going to be civil war. Slavery didn't end because we asked nicely and continued buying goods from the South.

@AlexanderKingsbury And just like in the 1930s, this country is still filled with people who will happily look the other way and continue to do business with fascists, no matter what they do to vulnerable minorities. The Nazi's weren't defeated by continuing to buy from Germany, and if it hadn't been for Germany declaring war on us (because we declared war on Japan), too many would have continued to do just that.
@AlexanderKingsbury 12 years ago, I was taken in by strangers when I had no place to go, and again 9 years ago. I have a moral responsibility to put my money where my mouth is, and provide shelter for those in need, as well. Some people may think me alarmist; I think those people naive. Better safe than sorry. Get while the gettin' is good, before it's too late. My German ancestors saw the writing on the wall in the 1920s and got the hell out, then put their lives on the line to stop Hitler.
