I've got no clue who actually started doing that in my household, but using old toilet paper rolls to prevent cables from entangling inside the storage boxes is actually a brilliant idea! 💡#organisation #storage #cables #recycling
@sustainrelease Yes, it’s been a gamechanger… :)
@schmuckerem_it @sustainrelease Genius, I’m now collecting toilet rolls.
@bjn @schmuckerem_it @sustainrelease I'm heading for a litteral dig in my paper recycling bin.

@harce

Paper bin... "litter"al... snerk.

(OP: Great idea, thanks for sharing! For less bulky cables like USB, I store them individually in zipper sandwich bags. With identifying info on the bag - e.g. "USB A to C 15' ".)

@bjn @schmuckerem_it @sustainrelease

@schmuckerem_it @sustainrelease It's a pity that they're always delivered with so much wrapping paper: https://youtu.be/hkhc5_NxSVA?t=32 ;-)

(Movie clip from a classic German comedy movie. The characters make souvenirs from toilet paper rolls, but first have to remove all that pesky toilet paper.)

@schmuckerem_it @sustainrelease First off, this is awesome.

Secondly, how have I never thought of this before.

Thirdly, new project, apparently.

@schmuckerem_it @sustainrelease Looks like a good solution to my current problem. Thanks.
@schmuckerem_it
That's really a next level life hack. Brilliant!
@schmuckerem_it @sustainrelease
Holy crap on a cracker! Now I'm collecting toilet rolls too.
@schmuckerem_it @sustainrelease (single person who uses approx one roll of TP every 1-2 weeks calculating how long it would take to assemble this)
@schmuckerem_it @sustainrelease this looks so amazing! It also solves the problem of things laying on top of each other and therwby obscuring each other!

@schmuckerem_it @sustainrelease Oh please.
I've been doing this with extension cords, phone cords, and networking cables for years.

I got the idea from a Bazooka Bubblegum comic almost 60 years ago.

@schmuckerem_it @sustainrelease

OK, I’m easing limits on TP use in our house until we have achieve cord storage nirvana

@schmuckerem_it @sustainrelease This could change my life! Awesome 👍
@schmuckerem_it @sustainrelease I could see that being enhanced even more by using a sharpie to write a note along the inside edge of the tube. Would avoid having to pull the thing out sometimes to see what it is.

@schmuckerem_it @[email protected]

Finding myself doing back of the envelope calculations to how long this will take to achieve as one person... maybe have to automate the process as @henryk recommended... though that would have been considered sacrilegious just a few short years ago... 🤣

@schmuckerem_it @sustainrelease @bsdphk real audiophiles use hemp paper rolls as that keeps the wires in better condition.
@schmuckerem_it @sustainrelease Na, da war ja ein rückwärtiger Nimmersatt am Werk.
@schmuckerem_it
I flatten mine and write on them with Edding / Sharpie so that I can see what's inside.
@sustainrelease
@claudius Next level paper roll organization. 👍 Really good system. Good idea to flatten them for smaller items. @schmuckerem_it
@schmuckerem_it i dont know about that, isnt that cheating?
@schmuckerem_it @sustainrelease gonna post this on Australian native bees and ask for an ID - many native stingless bees lay their eggs in holes/tubes like this
@schmuckerem_it @sustainrelease
All these older cables that accumulate over time. You look at them and tell yourself "well, maybe I'll need a telephone cable, a PS/2-USB-Adaptor, a 9-pin D-sub serial cable or a gender changer some day..."
@danimrich @schmuckerem_it That's so true. 😐 I would very well rather need a live hack for what to do with all the obsolete cables I'm storing... (The VGA cables on display being a good example for that...)
@sustainrelease @schmuckerem_it
If possible, I try to store these cables together with the devices they came with. But that's not always possible.
@danimrich @schmuckerem_it That sounds indeed like a good concept. And if I'm honest, I believe, a lot of the devices half of my cables were meant for, have long been retired and dismissed... (Need to go through that mess at some point...)
@schmuckerem_it @sustainrelease 😲 I'm mentally rearranging drawers while regretting all the old toilet paper rolls I recycled just last week! GREAT idea!
