Big uptick in new people here from Twitter - WELCOME PALS, I hope you enjoy it here as much as I do.

For those unfamiliar with the fediverse, the most important thing to note is that favs do absolutely nothing to help me pay my bills. Please boost my toots. Feel free to mock the way that sounds till you're blue in the face, as long as you still boost my toots.

My toots: boost them.

This toot has been favved more times than it's been boosted, and therefore I am ragequitting Mastodon and seeking refuge over on ... *checks notes* ... UGH FINE, I'LL STAY.
@girlonthenet Got a free invite for you to the good place...just sayin'...
@girlonthenet faving is nice but it is boosting that gives me reach, reader numbers and income
@goddessdeeva yesssss exactly

@girlonthenet i always appreciate it when you boost my stuff, and I always boost when I see yours, Molly's or anyone's.

I see those of us who are talking about sex in honest ways as conversation starters but damn it is a slog without the shares.

@girlonthenet do you... not want faves on this site? XD idk how it works really

@girlonthenet

I have noticed that people are not grasping that 'boost' is the equivalent of a twitter 'like'.

Boost first. 'Like' for emphasis, or for acknowledging a reply. This is my paradigm.

On a particularly good Mastodon day, I feel like I'm boosting most of my timeline.

@Edelruth @girlonthenet

I thought "boost" was the equivalent of "retweet" and "favorite" (star) was the equivalent of "like"

"Boost" puts the toot into your own timeline for your own followers to see.

"Favorite" does not.

@Edelruth @girlonthenet been saying the same forever! Favorite isnt visible to anyone else. Boost Boost Boost!
@Edelruth @girlonthenet well liking is just that: putting a mark on a thing telling someone you liked their thing. Twitter made it weird by turning it into some sort of soft boost/retweet. But here, it's simple and consistent: boost when you want to show to your followers, like when you like it and want the author to know.
@girlonthenet it's because you didn't use the magic  mast-signal!
@girlonthenet Is puce in the face OK too? %-P
@girlonthenet Sorry but don't think that boosting to my, er, 3 followers will do much to help you pay your bills either 😳
@zudnick don't underestimate the importance of people seeing 'social proof' when they look at a post: if people see others have boosted something, they are more likely to boost it too. Regardless of how many followers you have, getting into the habit of boosting my toots is a great way to secure the boostability of my toots in the future.

@girlonthenet @zudnick @stvfrnzl

Two toasts to touting the boosting of toots!

Boost them toots to yo' peeps and boos for a boost is used to pay a toot its due.

@girlonthenet Well, I rather hoping for something more along the lines of "*Oh but you're held in such high regard within the fediverse that just 3 of your followers is enough*" but I guess being a +1 in your boost count will have to do. 😆

There, you're my first boost.

@zudnick YAY! I have boosted you in return, so fame and fortune await

@girlonthenet * Checks follower count nervously to see if I've lost any due to my new devil-may-care attitude to boosting *

Phew! Still looking good.

@zudnick @girlonthenet Now you have one more, for supporting Our Netty :D
@girlonthenet there you go, one boost for you. Enjoy! 🤗
@girlonthenet i was going to make a "dont mess with my toot toot/please boost my toots" joke, but I fear no one else remembers this slice of 1985 classic music

@girlonthenet Great point! Posts only propagate here through boosts! There is no algorithm here to show popular posts. A post appears on the timeline then goes away quickly unless others boost it to keep it alive.
