This FineWoven case is *so* bad, this may be the year I do the unthinkable (for me at least) and go case-less with my iPhone 15 Pro Max.

I've had $10 cases from Amazon feel more premium than this. 😬

Still decided to give the FineWoven case a fair try.

Went out for dinner with friends last night and set my phone on the table. Like I have done HUNDREDS of times since 2008.

Woke up this morning with a stain on the FineWoven case. šŸ˜‘

I honestly think this is the worst accessory Apple's ever produced and I may just throw this out now. (Great for the environment!)

@viticci wow that’s bad! Don’t throw it, return it to Apple - they’ll make a new one out of it. 😜
@viticci $60 for that! Insane!!
@film_girl @viticci that’s not trash, return it. They need to know what’s wrong and they won’t until they see them all come back.
@film_girl @viticci I can see Apple pulling them, but what’s the alternative? Not going back to leather. Carbon fiber? Anything else?
@christianoliver @film_girl @viticci carbon fiber made of carbon … removed from the atmosphere
@viticci so glad I swerved - seems like a massive own-goal
@viticci Are you sure you aren’t ā€œholding it wrongā€? ;)
@viticci Looks like it’s worth $60! /s
@viticci As well as the stain, just look at all the bits it’s picked up.
@viticci to be fair: you could probably create an insane amount of FineWoven cases for the CO2 footprint of a leather case…I mean you are raising and killing an animal for leather…however I agree that it should be more durable and probably is overpriced as well.
@stefan_grvl I mean, won’t the cow have been slaughtered anyways for their meat?
@stefan_grvl Wrong. You're raising an killing an animal primarily for meat. Leather is just a byproduct, "waste" if you will.
@martin3783 it is not as others have already explained in the replies.
@viticci I got a similar case from Peak Design, but this one is awesome. Still expensive, but I also love that it supports MagSafe and mechanical locking to their bike mount
@frankenmichl @viticci I was looking at that one. I was worried the bottom was a bit bulkier than I’d like

@viticci you’ve also just casually made the number one point of criticism with all this.

Is it better for the environment to have a recycled product that needs to be replaced every few months?

Or is it better for the environment to have a leather case that lasts for years? Probably as long as the phone?

KgCO2E/year is the relevant measure here. Not ā€œevery case saves x amount of CO2Eā€

@viticci Impossible to clean the stain out? If so, that sucks big time as a product...
@viticci Apple has zero stains and staining matter in their glass UFO house, so they just couldn't test it
@viticci such a shame, I really liked the concept but seems to be a really bad product
@viticci I brought one and it arrived at the beginning of the week, I pulled open the friction packaging…looked at it for 30seconds, thought that’s at max a Ā£15 case not Ā£60…put it back and arranged a return. Ordered a silicone case immediately…the safe marginally less extortionate choice.
@viticci Surprisingly I like it, BUT, I wanna go caseless anyway because I got AppleCare and feel freeeeeeeee šŸ˜†
@viticci I’ve been on the fence with mine. I don’t hate it but might swap it out for a silicon one. I typically go careless but I have some travel coming up and like to have a case then.
@viticci have mixed feelings about the FineWoven case. It looks bad compared to the leather ones but I actually like the feeling of it.
@viticci I have always been case-less since iPhone 1st gen (except the iPhone 4, because of antennagate and the first year of the iPhone 11 Pro, where my wife forced me, because it was so expesive šŸ˜…). No cracked screens šŸ˜Ž see also https://youtu.be/vvFeqL86JBk

@viticci I got the FineWoven wallet with my review unit. I took it out of the box, touched it, and immediately put it back. It’s a big no from me. Luckily I still have my leather one.
@ChrisLawley @viticci When I was in the Apple Store today I heard an Apple salesperson tell a customer ā€œThese are the new cases, they’re like leather but better quality so they cost a little more.ā€ I looked at another Apple salesperson as if to say ā€œSeriously?ā€ And they just smiled and said ā€œI’m not going anywhere near that bruv!ā€šŸ˜‚
@ChrisLawley @viticci Car manufacturers have made really good pleather nowadays. They could do that and still be better for the environment and not kill animals for the sake of a phone case.
@ChrisLawley @viticci got the black FineWoven for my wife yesterday to put on the deep purple 14 Pro Max she’s getting from me - looks fine and she seems quite happy so I'm keeping quiet!
@viticci I haven’t used a case in years. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø
@viticci
who has ever touched twill and been like ā€œoh wow this is incredibly durable, this should be everywhereā€
@viticci It really seems like this was a ā€œBIGā€ hit and miss from Apple, which is more surprising given how much thought goes into and how careful they are with their products. Will be very curious to see how they handle FineWoven from here.
@viticci I don’t mind the feel and I kind of like how it looks fresh. But I know this thing is going to look like trash in a month.

@tchaten @viticci Every time I've dropped and cracked my phone was when it was in use... I don't know how a sleeve would help me.
@kalleboo @viticci Oh wow - not once has that happened with me - also use a Clckr MagSafe grip to ensure I’m not dropping when in use - phone feels much safer when not in use since the front and back are covered etc.

@viticci always been case-less with my iPhones, especially as have AppleCare as my ā€˜case’ protection.

I bought the fine woven MagSafe wallet in black and I like it better than the older leather version.

@viticci I’m so glad I didn’t decide to wait for the FineWoven Magnetic Link…
@viticci it’s the best of a terrible bunch. I hate the feel of silicon and the look of the clear case, but yeah fine woven is the opposite of premium
@viticci it just needs a firmware update.
@viticci Hard disagree. But I do think they should be charging $10 or $20 less for it.
@viticci could this be the year Ticci goes pop socket? It really helps with hold-ability of a naked phone and doubles as a kickstand. I also recommend checking out OhSnap which is lower profile and allows you to utilise MagSafe (more securely) without having to remove it.
@viticci The general consensus seems to be that these FineWoven cases are a complete bust.
@viticci I’ve always been caseless but my wife always got the Apple leather case with her phones and now she’s dreading upgrading and needing to find a new case maker.
@viticci I wouldn’t say it’s so bad but definitely not worth the price of admission. It’s about double the price it should have been. I actually quite like it.
@viticci I love the feeling and the look of it. šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø
@viticci I was also expecting better. A little softer and fully wrapped around the edges like a nice piece of a quality piece of fabric hugging my phone.
@viticci try a skin, it provides all the grip to prevent the phone from slipping of things and out of pockets šŸ‘

@viticci it’s the first time I had to return an Apple product. I got a silicone one instead (and $20 bucks back). 😬

I used to be #teamNoCase until that time I’ve found a scratch on the 12 Pro Max screen after a week of use where I pampered it like it was baby Jesus 🄲

Then I slapped a screen protector on it and a leather case was just the natural next step.

@maffeis @viticci I think we’ll be up for bad surprises if we go case-less. I have the feeling that the iPhone 14 pro was more durable than this new one!
@viticci Perhaps this is Apple’s diabolical plan… make everyone go caseless as it would be better for the environment! 🤣
@viticci thanks. I was considering one but have opted for an Otterbox case instead
@viticci either Apple knows something we don’t and the case actually is super durable or they completely whiffed on this. I think its biggest sin is that it feels cheap.
@viticci I returned mine. Just get anything else. Finewoven story line more like it.

@viticci My problem with the FineWoven case is that I don’t feel secure holding it in my hand. The phone constantly feels like I’m going to drop it.

I do think it looks nice, but the feel in hand is the most important thing for me when it comes to a case. I have another case on the way and I’m looking at others. It’s a shame because for a few years, the Apple leather case has been an instant buy with no regrets.
