Terraria dev Re-Logic donates $100K to Godot Engine and FNA, plus ongoing funding

Taking a firm stand against what Unity have been doing, Terraria developer Re-Logic announced today they've begun funding Godot Engine and FNA with a big donation and ongoing funding.

@gamingonlinux first they keep on updating a game they said they were done with, then this.

Re-Logic and Terraria truly are the gifts that keep on giving, quite literally

@ozone89 @gamingonlinux meanwhile:

Chucklefish has a lot of controversy with Starbound, the game is pretty much done for and on life support for quite some time... and they had the source code leaked a few months ago :)

and to believe Starbound came from a former Re-Logic dev that apparently was also causing problems before moving to Chucklefish, Re-Logic did good getting rid of him.

@xinayder

That game always makes me sad, when it first came out I wanted it to be good so badly, but I just can't get into it

@xinayder @gamingonlinux wouldn't have a hard time believing the former employer had some gripe with CF at this point, thus the leak as revenge, but that's only speculation on my side and means nothing, please don't take it seriously

@ozone89 @gamingonlinux I don't know what happened but I believe the modding community might be working to fix the game?

it would be awesome if the open source community decided to rewrite Starbound or make a similar game using a clean-room implementation, like they did with Veloren

@xinayder @gamingonlinux difficult. and REALLY up to CF to let them or not, as they still detain © on the source, leaked or not.

if modding space is anything like the emulation scene, they'll keep the source code at least a flagpole away from them, as this kind of stuff is usually a lawsuit magnet, and an excellent way to have modding support revoked.

@gamingonlinux That's wonderful. One of my favorite games of all time, and I've always loved the fact that the devs have never tried to gouge players, providing content updates over 10 years after the release for free.

Magic stuff!

@gamingonlinux Hells yeah good on terraria!
@gamingonlinux
Been playing it sense day one and I love it still, glad to see that relogic are supporting open source in this trying time

@gamingonlinux

Only silver lining in this whole thing has been the realization by a lot of devs that putting your work product in the hands of a maniacal corporation may not be the best business decision.

@gamingonlinux Just went ahead and bought their game.
