CNN: Elon Musk secretly ordered engineers to turn off his company’s #Starlink satellite communications network near the Crimean coast last year to disrupt a Ukrainian sneak attack on the Russian naval fleet, according to an excerpt from a new biography. https://www.cnn.com/2023/09/07/politics/elon-musk-biography-walter-isaacson-ukraine-starlink/index.html
"Musk is the last adequate mind in North America. Or, at the very least, in gender-neutral America, he is the one with the balls," reacts Dmitry Medvedev, former president of #Russia.
FT: Elon Musk gave his biographer private messages from a top #Ukraine official without seeking permission, revealing exchanges over the entrepreneur restricting the #Starlink internet service to thwart Kyiv’s military. https://www.ft.com/content/b38367f0-c70f-4a26-b9fa-8bf160e1803a

Mykhailo Fedorov says disclosure of exchange about military access to Starlink internet service ‘not pretty’

Financial Times
@w7voa Funny how much our conservatives now line up with the Russians.
@MylesRyden @w7voa The old guard, McCain & Dole, must be spinning in their graves.
@w7voa Elon sucks Putins 🐓
@w7voa "Least" is missing an "e".
@w7voa if the Russian government came out in favor of breathing I would be dubious of air.

@w7voa

That checks out...

Medvedev => Idiot and Mush is an idiot's version of a genius...

@w7voa

Nobody's got bigger balls than Gov Abbot.

@w7voa if it's true that the muskrat made a military decision in place of Ukraine's rightfully elected leaders, I hope the government of Ukraine is planning to eliminate its dependence on Starlink ASAP. An emerald slave mining heir shouldn't be making those calls for a sovereign nation.

Praise by the Moscow Butcher's hand puppet is damning indeed.

@w7voa
If this is true, I would think Musk should be on trial for treason.
@w7voa This is what you get for depending on a foreign private corporation during a war. Much of the USSR space program was in Ukraine yet they are dependent on Musk for satellite communication now? Uh, why?
@w7voa
If what Julian Assange did is treason then this must surely also be, and moreso.
@zl2tod @w7voa funny, as you brought it up, they both did it for Putin. And I agree, both traitors, no “if” about it.

@zl2tod @w7voa

Well, Assange is not a US citizen.

Musk is.

Also, Assange made public the law breaking that the US had engaged in.
That was Assamge's real crime; the rest is contrived.

@w7voa It is a bad development that a private usurper can determine the course of wars.
@QuantumAspect @w7voa a private usurper that runs Russia started this "war"
@w7voa essentially he is a Russian asset. How could it be that he is allowed to control vital infrastructure? Ah yes the "the private sector does it best" mantra. Couldn't we give him one of this fragile ego vehicles and some one sane controls the companies?

@w7voa DOD should take note.

Russia aside, his dependency on/appeasement of China should be of concern alone.

@w7voa No one person should be able to order something like this. Utterly ridiculous.
@w7voa Oh shit... that's complicity
@w7voa An excellent argument for nationalizing all of those satellites.
@w7voa
Looks like the industrial is the weak link in the old military industrial complex doesn't it?

@w7voa
As with his fellow Russian oligarchs, Elon must be added to the next war sanctions blacklist.

This report makes him an active participant in a foreign war. Can he be charged under the Logan Act?

#ElonMusk #RussianWarCrimes #SanctionsRussia #Ukraine

@mcpinson @w7voa At the same moment, StarLink must be pried from his hands or he will throw Ukraine into the dark. Yeah, nationalization, like the TSA in the wake of 9-11.
@w7voa
Sinister. What an awful, evil man.
@w7voa part 89 in our continuing series: "why the world really doesn't need high tech billionaires"

@w7voa

That seems to indicate that Elon is a foreign agent and is required to register with the DOJ. I'm not a lawyer and know nothing about this law but how can that new tidbit of information mean any thing else?

A foreign agent also doing work for the US government? Seems like a conflict of interest to me.

@TopKnot Technically the US is not at war with Russia and not allied with Ukraine so technically this was likely legal. I don't think the US has laws banning civilians from intervening in conflicts the US is not involved in?
@TopKnot Also he doesn't do work for the US government. He owns and acts as C-level officer for several companies that have US government contracts. I'm pretty sure the US government also has contractors that are non-US businesses or owned by non-US individuals. Don't make me defend this numpty.
@TopKnot The US government could "punish" his behavior by reducing their use of SpaceX but I'm sure the contracts can't easily be terminated prematurely and the US government seems to have made itself dependent on SpaceX by pivoting to the private space sector before there was any real competition.
@w7voa again why I don't believe something so vital as network access should be in the hands of businesses.
@w7voa Wow! The ramifications of such an action are enormous.
@w7voa Revoke his citizenship, seize his assets and deport him. #ElonMusk #fascism
@rob11563 @w7voa New Twitter regugee, here, trying to learn how to comment: exactly, Musk is complicit in Kashoggi’s death. Twitter was a great, effective way for grassroots movements to stay engaged- they bought it to trash democracy & activism
@rob11563 @w7voa I got immediate spam on my first comment 😑
@w7voa Billionaires are weapons of mass destruction
@w7voa @lisamelton what the actual fuck, I knew he was an awful person, but this is… fucking horrible.
@w7voa young Trump with more resources. dangerous asshole.
@w7voa could be, but those things are made out of corrugated cardboard and spit, so maybe they just stopped working at an inopportune time
@w7voa The problem with oligarchs is that it's so easy to coerce and manipulate them. Their great wealth and many interests are also their great vulnerability. Tesla Shanghai uses a lot of inexpensive Russian aluminum
@w7voa
According to the article, Musk had an acute fear that Russia would respond to the drone attack with nuclear strikes.
Question…. If you were in Musks shoes, would you do the same knowing that one nuclear strike begets another and another and another……
@Ferencz @w7voa It really isn't up to me though (nor is it up to him).
@shrmanator @w7voa
Who is it up to then …..considering that in the article Musk only intended peaceful uses for Starlink.

@w7voa

Can anyone seriously believe that any of the "mega-rich" care for anything except getting more money and playing God with other people's lives?

Bought by China, Russia, Saudi Arabia and who knows how many other countries are subsidising this danger to public safety/sanity.

@w7voa the word, shit-bag comes to mind.
@w7voa no single person should have that much power
@w7voa 你小子浓眉大眼的也通俄啊🙊
@w7voa
Ukraine should put out an international warrant for his arrest if there are concrete facts to make it stick.

@w7voa

I would say something bad about muskrat but the sophistry densors would go in a tizzy and remove my post

@w7voa Musk must be removed from Starlink. he is to dangerous to leave
@w7voa And we trust this guy with so much stuff. Yikes!
@w7voa I’d be thinking about how I’d fair in federal genpop, if I was him.
@w7voa Didn't I read that the US military was paying for Starlink communication services for the Ukrainian military? Isn't that breach of contract or something? Kindof seems like the US should take legal action against the man or the company or something.
