Glacier Peak Backpacking: Day 1

The first photo is the view from near my camp on Cloudy Pass. Today has been incredible but tough. Hiked 20 miles with 6400’ elevation gain. This is not like the PCT, it’s rough trails that go straight up for hours. But i’m so happy, I wanted an epic long weekend and Glacier Peak Wilderness is providing that in spades so far.

Glacier Peak Backpacking: Day 2

The highlight of today was seeing my first bear in two decades. He was rummaging around a meadow next to the backpackers camp at Image Lake. Explored some unmaintained trails above Image Lake. Headed down toward Canyon Lake but turned around when I realized there was no one around for miles. Visited the Miners Ridge Lookout Tower.

Glacier Peak Backpacking: Day 3

After spending the weekend with absolutely no cell reception, I woke up and hiked out the 21 miles I had planned to split into two days. Glacier Peak is an amazing place, and I plan to return, but I tend to start missing my family after three days. The North Cascades are truly special, I could easily retire in northern Washington.

@andrewbriscoe Looks like a wonderful trip, Andrew! Yes, I know what you mean about that feeling of wanting to go home after 3 days. PNW is a beautiful area-- I wish I could beam myself there!
@TimKStanton It’s such a beautiful place! It was also a very long drive with a very rough road to the trailhead.
