Doing some work and charging the MacBook off apartment balcony solar ☀️🔋
@christianselig had never thought of the car cigarette lighter adapter for mine. I'll shop around to have more USB power charging ability (there are 6 on my battery pack, but in an emergency setting it can be a lifesaver).
[Edit: nice balcony you got there too :) ).
@jt_rebelo Yeah the lack of USB-C outputs on these things is kinda dumb
@christianselig mine has two and has worked well because I have several UBS-A to C adapters. But like disk space, there's no such thing as enough USB ports (I have several USB hubs that can be powered by an external brick, they'd work too, but are a lot more bulkier than your solution). Thank you!
@jt_rebelo Which one do you have? I'd even love a second built in USB-C port haha
@christianselig I have an Ecoflow Delta (the one that came with 1.2kWh, they had/have one with 1kWh, less power output and the same exact size and weight). Mine has two regular USB-A (12W each), two USB-A Fast Charge (18W each) and two USB-C (60W each).
@jt_rebelo Ah nice, that's pretty sick
@christianselig I power it through two 110W Ecoflow solar panels. In direct sunlight without any clouds it takes around 6h to fully charge (I watch the Le Mans 24H race using only power from it, powering everything but the internet modem/router and Wi-Fi repeaters).

@jt_rebelo That's so sick. I love solar!
@christianselig I do too, it's a shame it isn't less expensive/more rewarding (as in investment payback or excess energy being paid after being put into the network) even under almost perfect conditions (as for water heating, around here - Lisbon, Portugal - maybe only in the longest Winter stormy days we need to plug the water heater, there are almost 330 days/year of electricity-free water heating from the sun).
@christianselig I've continued to wonder what it would take to run my office off solar energy.
@curtismchale Probably not much, my entire setup only draws 180W in use, around 450W briefly when the standing desk goes up or down
@christianselig Hrm then I could have a "summer" office out in the shop and get out of the basement sometimes.
@christianselig Join the club! 🙂 (Different laptop make and model, though.)

Running a solar-powered laptop

I’m a happy Pinebook Pro user, and I frequently use it on solar power.

@xahteiwi Whoa, now that's a really cool setup
@christianselig It's a delightful rig for what I need it for. 🙂
@christianselig I love those ecoflow batteries, so many great uses.
@christianselig this looks very similar to how I spent the weekend, but closer to civilization. Giant solar batteries, how did I live without them so long?
@christianselig will you send your generator to me?
@christianselig Is that the River 2 Pro?
I love that one, own it for about 2 month.
The only downside is the single USB-C port.
