Sorry folks but a re-read of Good Omens is calling.
Have a great Sunday everyone. Me and Terry are reving up our motorbike engines, looking for the misplaced antichrist while staving of the rapture.
Enjoy!
I don't think that is an actual #TerryPratchett quote.
https://www.reddit.com/r/quotes/comments/9y9b7d/source_needed_satire_is_meant_to_ridicule_power/
People also attribute to Einstein that quote about the definition of insanity, it doesn't make it true.
I am not arguing about the sentiment but I do think #TerryPrachett would have phrased it better.
Seems like a moot point since the origins of the misattribution is known (I think there is a copy of the Tumblr post available somewhere).
Here you can find the story of the quote:
Seems extremely disrespectful to #TerryPratchett.
@oligneisti @VCWillow I saw a link to the explanation but don't have a Tumblr account to read it. If others' reports of it are accurate, well done that person for admitting and explaining.
Mis-remembering and thereby mis-quoting is soooo embarrassingly easy. \me blushes at memories
As a deep dish fan of Sir Terry, I wanna say he'd probably find ppl arguing over a misattributed excellent thought, rather than applauding an excellent thought, something worth satirizing
😉
1. Who claimed otherwise? No one.
2. Strawman plus he satirised people's foibles, he never punched down. You satirise people's behaviour not their immutable characteristic such as race, gender, sexuality, gender identity or other characteristic based on bigotry.
3. It's on many respectable sites including goodreads etc, it's fair to view as genuine.
You seem to be missing the point satire and all good humour doesn't punch down.
Interestingly a lot of defenders particularly of recently failed presidents seem to invert this logic and accuse satirists of "bullying" those in power...
@VCWillow Whether Terry said that or not, I certainly agree with it.
Also legendary comedian George Carlin (whose material, particularly from the 90s and 2000s is still extremely relevant to this day) definitely says much the same here. Unfortunately 'anti-woke' conservatives still try to believe Carlin was on their side. These people rarely understand the joke is on them until strip away all subtlety and spell it out for them.

@VCWillow how do you know people with power aren't secretly hurting and that's why they seek power?
people are people, anytime, anywhere.
im not being sarcastic, rethoric, nor trying to be funny. it's a genuine question.
i think it must be a sad life to only have power to care about. after all 'hurt people hurt people'.
