@simonbs I’ve used Arc App for a while, directly after Moves shut down. It even had (has?) a Moves import. Back then it used way more battery than Moves did. But that might have changed in the meantime

@fittschen @simonbs +1 for Arc and mini Arc (back up to main Arc app if iOS kills either the other should continue to record) https://apps.apple.com/app/id1510217238
Takes a bit of “teaching” and time for it make good choices, and it helps if you keep a regular schedule and carry the iphone in a constant manner (same pocket) minimal extra battery consumption ime
Arc Mini is an open source companion to Arc App. It provides both a slimmed down subset of Arc's functionality, as well as additional utility views, for inspecting real time recording and debug information. Arc Mini is best used as a tinker toy for open source developers, or Arc App power users wi…
@simonbs I came across Moves Lite a while ago, have yet to try it myself, but at least the screenshots kind of match 😉

@simonbs I’ve been using Where Have I Been for years.
Where Have I Been (WHIB) is a great way to keep track of your life. WHIB automatically chronicles your day by dropping location crumbs as you move from one location to another. As you collect crumbs, they can be viewed in a variety of ways to help you understand how and where you spend your time. Ev…

@simonbs Moves was acquired by Gyroscope, I believe, and it’s not integrated into that app. I still pay for it happily; it’s excellent.
Correction: it was Facebook that bought Moves. Gyroscope, which used to depend on Moves to import location tracking data, had to rebuild equivalent functionality itself to replace it.
@simonbs
Yes. Yes. I’ve missed Moves too.
I’ve been using #OwnTracks for years because I completely control the data. It send the location to my server and I keep my history safe.
But it needs a way to analyses and present it like Moves did. For 5 years now I keep thinking I’d spin up a side project for this and never get to it. 😭
@simonbs I loved that app!
While it is not the same, I’ve been using LifeCycle for years:
Life Cycle automatically keeps track of your time and presents your life sorted into slices. It shows you your daily activities, places you go, and who you spend time with. Life Cycle weekly journal provides personalized insights and clarity to your week passed. Start each week with a look back. Rem…
@simonbs I begrudgingly use Google Maps for this only because Google Workspace is essential for me, as much as I would like to extract myself completely from them. Honestly one of my favorite aspects of this is the integration with Google Photos. All this makes me feel like I’m going to get tomatoes thrown at me here.
Also might be worth looking at OwnTracks. https://owntracks.org/
@simonbs @viticci Wanderings does a great job of keeping track of where you go with light battery usage. No points of interest integration but over the years it builds a VERY impressive map.
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/wanderings-travel-tracking/id1292503352
Wanderings is a location tracking application and accompanying web site (at wanderin.gs) that shows a heatmap of where you've been. It is low effort; just keep the app running in the background on your phone and it will record where you are occasionally using GPS and other location methods. Then com…
