New gender just dropped
@womump reminded me that genders.wtf exists and now I am laughing uncontrollably https://genders.wtf/
Genders.WTF

@vaurora @womump I’m laughing so hard, I have tears!
@vaurora hot new genders, roaming your local area, going unnoticed.
@meena @vaurora
Gender: irrelevant
Makes total sense.
@vaurora You have to wonder how relevant it is at all on 90% of the forms that have this.
@vaurora A lovely variant written on the streets of #Amsterdam ...😆

@vaurora
Ha.

@vaurora @beadsland This is one of the little side benefits to having a PhD. Free gender-neutral salutation!
@IPEdmonton @vaurora @beadsland
That was one of my primary motivations for getting a PhD.
@vaurora reminds me of Fallen London’s character creation options

@chrisamaphone @RoseRaven which reminds me, I still need to ping them and get that switched on my old account, because every now and then I consider playing and then remember and don’t

(They’ll do it, it’s just extra effort because it’s a support request instead of just a config change, unless they’ve fixed that since)

@tess @chrisamaphone

I only konw fallen london from the sunless sea game

@RoseRaven @chrisamaphone ah, then you’re missing out if you’ve never tried the original browser game (I think there’s also mobile apps for it if that’s your preference)
@chrisamaphone
I remember that one (oh, that was SO MANY years ago!) and you know what? I just realize that the third answer addresses them with "dear sir" as if a lady or a person with undefined gender would never ask such a question. And that might be a very valid point... 😅
@vaurora
@vaurora feeling this one Deeply
@vaurora @ryanrandall Call me Jesse. Irrelevant Baer is my father.

@vaurora
People profitting off other people's original work and other people's names has been happening a lot on YouTube. Not just people reposting other people's videos but also the AI generated rip-offs.

A couple of months ago many content creators were highlighting those problems and that YouTube were not preventing those frauds AND were also letting the thieves keep the Ad revenue generated.

As long as companies take a share of ill-gotten gains through "non-trademarked names" they see no reason to take substantial (or even simple) action against the thieves.

Yet users 'establishing a personal brand' and 'verifying identity by 2FA' is all the rage with internet companies. More scams.

(nb: I just checked YT to find the name of a vid by Kyle Hill about YouTube's "Science Scam Crisis" ... there's a react video directly beneath the search result. I may watch it to see how much original commentary - not just video - that the reactor has in their video.)

@vaurora Harold Finch Voice: “The government considers these genders irrelevant. We don’t.”
@vaurora I'd like to list my gender as "over it."

@vaurora

“What are your pronouns?”
“PRONOUNS ARE IRRELEVANT. YOU WILL BE ASSIMILATED.”

@vaurora Not sure if a statement on one's gender or just a statement on one's existence.

@vaurora this makes perfect sense.

my gender is 100% of the time irrelevant and none of your business

@vaurora English should not have gendered 3rd person singular pronouns - they only make sense if nouns are gendered (like many other languages have but not English), or if you need to segregate people where one gender is above the other.
@vaurora “Please, Mr. Irrelevant is my father. Irrelevant will do just fine, thank you.”
@vaurora in cringy voice, everything turns into black and white: "My name is Not Important"
@vaurora I just feel like "Mx." would be more analogous and in keeping. But nonbinary, I, am used to being the odd one out. Hm.
@vaurora First time I've ever seen my gender on a form
@vaurora found the corner case for this ui element: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mr._Irrelevant
Mr. Irrelevant - Wikipedia

@vaurora Where's this from?
(since it's nice to have source information when adding to https://genders.wtf/ )
Genders.WTF

@vaurora I fucking want this everywhere
@vaurora I share the sentiment, but its a bit of a self-own to demand to be addressed as "irrelevent". Are you anti-all titling? I'm good with first names, but I don't think most people want strangers addressing them that way either.
@vaurora if you like labels, pomogender (and to a lesser extent cassgender) are exactly this ✨

@vaurora Not just a gender, a *title.*

Irrelevant Cade is my new rapper name.

@vaurora gender IS being inserted unnecessarily in many contexts, and linguistically I believe it has an effect subconciously (i.e: biases.) We should aim to minimise irrelevant mention or use of pronouns or gender.

It has been used by surveillance capitalism software to influence people's behaviour and self-identity.

@vaurora I came across this one at work a little while ago
@vaurora Finally! Saves me the trouble of always filling out the “wrong gender” (= the one I do not identify as) in all the forms. Have done this for years as I think it is not their business (airlines, webpages, banks, etc)😁
@vaurora Where is Ultra Relevant?
@vaurora this confirms what I told a client last year who wanted a translation. I said "just delete the field and address the ppl as dear firstname lastname"
@vaurora Imagine the gender reveal parties?
@vaurora Even for those of us who strongly identify as male or female, why is it so important that our gender has to be used in formal address? Maybe we could just introduce people as The Honorable Firstname Lastname.
@vaurora is this a new term for "cis het" I didn't get?
@vaurora @bernardk This should be a mandatory selection.
