I reject the notion MAGA voters are too dumb or too gullible to understand trump was lying to them about the 2020 election. It’s worse than that. They knew trump was lying but they didn’t care because they have chosen Trump over the USA.
@DeanObeidallah I think that the notion that MAGA people are mentally incompetent robs them of the opportunity to learn and change. I think it's safer to assume they are intentionally like they are and it is our role to disabuse them of the notion that they should continue to be lying, bullying, abusive, cruel assholes to us (and to each other), as unpleasant as that role can be. We should be directly confronting them and suing them and otherwise being wholly troublesome for them at every turn, not letting them run amok.

@perigee @DeanObeidallah I tried for 30 years to get my fringe-right parents to see reason. It never worked. And the reason it never worked is because this is religion, not rationality. You can't reason with someone who doesn't even acknowledge objective reality, and instead actually fights it.

I'm not saying this is mental illness, but it is cult brainwashing, and that requires professionnal deprogramming.

@textualdeviance @perigee @DeanObeidallah The brainwashing does not stop. Trump still to date keeps lying about the election. The same goes for the vast network of right wing media now. Straight up lies. No consequences.
#fascism

@perigee @DeanObeidallah

We can't do the job when there's a massive multi-billion dollar machine feeding into making people into bigoted, cruel assholes. Confronting them does nothing but reinforce what the right-wing system is telling them. I agree with suing, but they control much of the courts... but you can't be sued for being a lying, racist asshole.

@Mxhrad @perigee @DeanObeidallah

you can disassociate yourselves from them though and refuse to deal with them at all. If everyone did that this would stop.

@darwinwoodka @perigee @DeanObeidallah

Exactly. Ostracize them. Remove them from society. That would be great, but when a major political party and a massive media system encourages them, they aren't going to be removed from society. It won't happen when we have large corporations like Target giving into bigots whining. It won't happen when the media both sides everything.

@Mxhrad @darwinwoodka @perigee @DeanObeidallah

One of the way that ostracization is supposed to work is that the ostracized feels loss from it and then identifies they need to let go of their shit to belong again. So to your point that the entire ecosystem wont do it, and my thrust that its gonna be peer to peer at best given Media is an intrigue generator and Capitalist Enterpise is...well...Capitalist...and the Electoral opposition is slothful and avoidant in admitting the black eyes and bruises on the legitimacy of The State, peer ostracization is not gonna silver bullet it.

Especially as social tethers between those who believe in and wanna be part of ground level Fascism solidify and calcify around themselves, and think themselves better off without you, as peer.

Ive always rejected the idea that you can willfully ignore bad things out of existence, even moreso now that its obvious shitbirds will find one another and move together.

It aint pleasant and it aint safe but imposing real costs and tolls that arent about peer relationship, on necrotic belief is a kind of ostracization if you squint.

@ciggysmokebringer @darwinwoodka @perigee @DeanObeidallah

Yeah, putting continuous pressure on organizations not to fund or hire far right bigots would be one way to go. The important part is "continuous," since these a-holes will go right back to funding extremists if they think we're not paying attention anymore.

@DeanObeidallah It’s a cult. Us against _______. They’re brainwashed by rw media and his lies.

@DeanObeidallah it's not a function of intelligence, but rather that of maintaining a position within their social circle (though initially just online) and they would have to accept social banishment/social death if they acknowledge that they were lied to and hoodwinked. Most people would would give up their own lives than lose their social status. Charlie Veitch was a 9/11 truther and converted to acknowledge that it wasn't an inside job, now gets death threats.

Charlie Veitch, the 9/11 Conspiracy Theorist Who Realized He Was Duped

Once one of Britain’s principal conspiracy theorists as well as friend to David Icke and Alex Jones, Charlie Veitch, was known as a 9/11 “truther.”  As soon as he realized that he had been duped, he stopped.  But that was when his problems really began. According to an interview Veitch gave to the Telegraph, Veitch, […]

@Sean @DeanObeidallah they would be better off without those kind of people in their lives anyway

@DeanObeidallah and it's hardly the first time..

Every time they do it they dig in deeper and anytime they would consider moving away would be admitting their treacherous, selfish, shortsighted apathy.

I posted this after Helsinki

@DeanObeidallah
They are what you say, but they are also dumb and gullible. They refuse to think, they accept what they are spoon fed. Especially when it reinforces their fears. Because their most basic characteristic is cowardice. They are afraid of their shadow.

@DeanObeidallah

I think it's more accurate to say that they've chosen their feel--good self-delusion over the reality of the USA, and Trump happens to be the iconic figurehead of it. Until they found their delusion that grants them comfort or validation, they were silently miserable in the closet.

They are nevertheless dumb and gullible, however, because they mis-aim all their hatred at "liberals" instead of the true cause of all their ills: the One Percent and corporate boardrooms.

There’s A Corner. And Trump Has Backed Us Into It

Forget all of the somber, obligatory admonitons that Trump’s third indictment is a sad day for America. Forget all the “innocent until proven guilty” catechisms. Yes, both are true. But set them as…

Life on the Wicked Stage: Act 3

@DeanObeidallah

One coup that he got away with

@DeanObeidallah The trick was convincing a bunch of people to redefine "USA" to be a smaller group of people more like them. They are choosing that small group and calling it patriotism, and I honestly don't know how it's possible to deprogram that ideology.

@whetstone @DeanObeidallah

Exactly, hence the popularity of the "if you aren't a right wing bigot like us and you come to our town, we're going to kill you" song.

@DeanObeidallah @lisamelton it is essentially advanced Own the Libs, they want to hurt people they are told to hate, they have for decades and decades. They parrot whatever serves the agenda of causing hurt. They hate things, simply because those they oppose favor them. There is no reasoning with them.
@DeanObeidallah When you've been raised from the cradle to allow blind faith to subsume your rational thinking mind, it's easy for a con artist to hit those same religious switches and win your trust. It's more than gullibility, it's programmed irrationality.
@DeanObeidallah The lies are irrelevant. They've decided lying is fine as long as it's in service to winning. Anything is okay...lying, breaking the law, treason...as long as they win.

@DeanObeidallah

Respectfully, there’s a hole in your logic:

Dumb and evil are not mutually exclusive.

#Trump supporters have neither brains nor a moral compass.

And the fact that other people do is beyond their comprehension.

#USPolitics

@DeanObeidallah Yes, there is a sizable number of Americans who do not believe in democracy. This is very frightening.

@DeanObeidallah
You could be right. Not a lot of thinking going on with that crowd methinks.

No one, I say no one, benefits from having an erratic buffoon in the WH.

@DeanObeidallah they let the lies sooth their conscience or if no conscience, they think it gives them free license.
@DeanObeidallah Sadly, I think this is true. I think they NOW have decided they would rather have a dictator that gets them their desired ends, than preserve American democracy and rule of law.
@DeanObeidallah I agree with your assessment of the mango maniac's mob. They have proven themselves willfully ignorant. Despite all of the evidence of his absolute criminal nature and behavior, they blindly follow and support his misdeeds. And it affects all levels of functionality. From the basest laborer to upper reaches of our "gubmint". Examples of how far it reaches would be those hypocritical congressional crooks such as mitch "its all about me" mcconnell through to marjorie traitor greed.
@DeanObeidallah I live with 2 of those MAGA voters, don’t underestimate people’s potential to be morons
@Jayanky @DeanObeidallah I'm so sorry. Hope you can escape soon

@DeanObeidallah

Have you had many conversations with MAGA voters?

@DeanObeidallah it feels like we'll need to fight another war to stop Fascism again

@DeanObeidallah

no surprise considering how many chose Trump over their friends and family

@DeanObeidallah
Cult brain already rewired to #losertrump
They need to be distracted by something else to change their brain.

@DeanObeidallah
Yep.

MAGAts are traitors. Any political analysis has to begin with this fact.
