I don’t think they are saying that Trump shouldn’t be covered, but that the media pushes this for clicks when it should be looking at other politicians too. Trump is a symptom, not the disease.

If so then she was already investigated and they decided there wasn’t enough evidence to be worth prosecuting her over it. But yes, if anyone commits a crime, and there’s enough evidence to stand up at trial, they should be prosecuted.

I’m not the OP, but I’ll answer.

I’m not aware she tampered with evidence. What she did - having her own private email server at the time, and getting some low-level secret info on it - was legal at the time. The Republicans had dozens of hearings on the subject, but could never find wrongdoing. Was it not great behavior? Yes. Illegal? No. Kinda hard to get a cover-up charge on something that’s not a crime.

That being said, if she did do something wrong, I’m fine with her going to the hoosegow. Democrats don’t venerate their politicians like Republicans.

Gone are the David Frums, Bill Kristols, and the rest of the window dressing “intellectuals” who allowed shitheel party waft some scent of civility. Most comments here are responses to the typical grievance/butt-hurt offered by #TheThurd. Republicans are to a person either dimwits - the huge majority - or bad-faith assholes who manipulate and grift off those dimwits. Both assholes and morons historically have been banished from smaller populations. Modernity and the American system have, through an excess of charity, empowered this minority, allowing them to garner about half the country’s political power. What I’m grateful for is there is no one to point to while saying, “but that reasonable member for the party says such and such.” Reason is eliminated. They are purified. No need to touch. No need the sniff. No need to taste. If they’re republicans, they’re shit. There’s no crunchy coating; it now simply steams.

She should be punished for mishandling classified information, as much as Trump should be punished for using an unsecured phone for his presidential duties. As we keep saying in this thread, it's possible to have a consistent opinion in all of this.

Next you have to prove that her servers were handled that way for the purpose of tampering with evidence in a court of law. Y'know, like people are trying to do right now with Trump? The problem here is the matter of proof. It's unfortunate for Trump that his lackeys were caught trying to destroy evidence and, y'know, left behind evidence of trying to do so, but that's what it takes to prosecute someone for that particular crime.

Let me reframe the question for you. Do we think Hilary and her aides should be prosecuted if evidence supported targeted tampering instead of incompetence? Yes. If it was deliberate, is it a shitty thing that she and her staff was not prosecuted on the basis of that evidence? Also yes.

People don’t turn a blind eye, other politicians just put in the work to not get caught commiting crimes. Most other politicians stick to the “normal” crimes like bribery, insider trading, embezzlement, and just run of the mill corruption, some of which isn’t even illegal anymore thanks to the GOP and certain corrupt members of the supreme court.

Trump on the other hand is just fucking blatant and goes for the spicy options like stealing classified documents, and attempted coups. Even when he’s committing less serious crimes he doesn’t even try to hide it. He literally brags about his crimes.

Conservatives always try this tactic that basically boils down to “yeah our guy is a criminal, but so is yours” and them act dumbfounded when liberals respond with “fine, put them both on trial”. They don’t understand this isn’t a sports game, we’re not cheering for “our guy”. If a politician committed a crime he should be put on trial for it. If there’s enough evidence go for it. What they’re getting confused about is how everyone rolled their eyes at them when they kept spouting off about just blatantly absurd conspiracy theories about Obama that were just thinly veiled racism.

Trump isn’t being singled out because people hate him, he’s being singled out because he’s a criminal and just really really bad at it. The only reason he wasn’t behind bars a decade ago is because he has money and the US justice system is very much pay to play.

Problematic politicians are reported on all the time. Recently we have Alito, Gaetz, Pelosi, Thomas, among many others.

The difference is that the left rejects corruption and undesirable politicians within their party. Remember Anthony Wiener? Gone. Remember Al Franken? He pushed himself out (wrongfully so I’m his case, IMHO - a true acknowledgement and apology for the wrongdoing paired with steps to bring something good from it would have saved his career).

Trump is currently the topic of conversation because he’s under multiple indictments while in-fighting with his own party and trying to campaign all at the same time. As much as I hate hearing about that asshole, it’s news. Huge news. Historic news.

So yes, the former president of the United States is getting more coverage. That’s because he’s the former fucking president of the United fucking States. But if you actually, y’know, go past the “front page,” you will find that there’s plenty of reporting on others.
