@dungeons I believe this is where we say "I told you so"? Stop attacking big-ass animals at level 1! It was double our hit points and could do way more damage than us. Why would you vote for that?

@sarahv @dungeons We never learn.

Leave the farm animals alone.

@dingodog19 @dungeons People keep voting to attack 1/4CR creatures at level one, and then we die, rinse, repeat. Eventually we get lucky and make it to level two and the character lasts for a while. It's not a great strategy.
@sarahv @dungeons how do you see how much damage it can do. I see it's CR and Hit points but nothing indicating it's damage.

@Dharkstare @sarahv @dungeons if you've played a while you'll know that we often get killed by horses, lol

You can look up the stats for a Draft Horse online like here: https://roll20.net/compendium/dnd5e/Draft%20Horse#content. Its attack does 2d4+4 (so 6-12 base damage)

Crits allow the horse to roll its 2d4+4 twice, which is why it did even more damage

Roll20
@astrelion @Dharkstare @sarahv @dungeons actually wouldn't you only double the dice and not the modifier on a critical? So it would be 4d4+4

@ChrisJohnRiley @Dharkstare @sarahv @dungeons the +4 isnt a damage or ability modifier though, it IS part of the roll

Unless I misunderstand how crit works or the stat block, which could totally be the case 😅

@astrelion @Dharkstare @sarahv @dungeons "If a critical hit is rolled, then the player or DM doubles the number of damage dice rolled during the attack." - I always read that as excluding the modifier, but 🙃

@ChrisJohnRiley @Dharkstare @sarahv @dungeons yeah seems that's probably an accurate interpretation of that. From what I've seen a lot of DMs do a bunch of different things as far as crit goes, so you can consider it an unintended house rule for now :)

I'd hear arguments for the contrary, this is a vote-based bot after all

@astrelion @Dharkstare @sarahv @dungeons Sorry I just realized I'm being a rules jackal… it's all good, fun is fun 😁🤣🤣🤣
@ChrisJohnRiley @Dharkstare @sarahv @dungeons dont be! I didn't even realize I had interpreted the rule differently
@sarahv @dungeons I don't think most people even realize the main character's hp most of the time.
@MarkHanson @dungeons Yes, there is a lot of ignorance. This is my effort to educate through indignant outrage. 😁
@sarahv @MarkHanson @dungeons I’ve often wondered about the appropriateness of replying to the poll with suggestions. I sometimes catch a fresh poll with only 3 or 4 votes. “For the love of daises, do not attack this, we are at 4 hp and will die!!”
@raederle @MarkHanson @dungeons I think it's fine - the only way you would see a suggestion from (for example) me is if you either follow me already or if you are thinking "gee I don't know how to vote, I'll click through and see if there's any comments" - in which case the replies are surely welcome, no? As long as it's accurate info.
@dungeons
Good lord. The low stat sorcerer lasted longer than this. 🤦‍♂️
@dungeons remember when I asked if y'all were ready to roll a new character when this thing showed up? Lol

@Woodswalked Let's not try it with a half-drafted toot...
@dungeons apparently most of the voters are new to this game…

@CDunnPasadena @dungeons maybe one day collectively we will learn?

It's good in a sense that this is getting some traction!

@dungeons
Whoa. I expected more.
@dungeons Listen up, adventurers! Tina's looking strong, with max health and a decent weapon. The Draft Horse has taken a hit. We've got no advanced mechanics to consider and missing a roll won't cost us a spell slot. Recommendation: Stick to your weapons and go with the ⚔️ Melee, one-handed [1d8] option. It uses the Rapier's power, avoids the disadvantage of an improvised ranged attack, and is stronger than unarmed. Running? Pah, we ain't cowards. Stick in there and [1/2]
@dungeons cont.| let's finish this horse! [2/2]

@dungeons Listen up, adventurers! As Tina, the Dragonborn Paladin battles the Draft Horse, the best option would be ⚔️ Melee, one-handed [1d8]. With Tina's massive strength and her handy rapier, she can easily outmatch the horse's low challenge rating. The unarmed option lacks her weapon's punch, and the ranged attack would be at a disadvantage. Running from a CR 1/4 creature? Not on my watch, unless you fancy being a coward. Stick with the sword, and let's bring this [1/2]
@dungeons cont.| beast down. Remember, every win is XP in the pocket! [2/2]
@dungeons Listen up, folks. We're in a favorable position. Tina crossed paths with a Draft Horse, ❕1/4, quite manageable. Tina's fully healed, with a rapier ready to swing. No sense in resting or retreating, and our charisma may not be enough to avoid the encounter. Let's press on with a ⚔️ Fight! Fighting rewards us with ✨ 50 EXP and increases our strength. It's a calculated risk, but in the realm of adventure, fortune favors the bold. Play wise, play hard.
@dungeons Dear god look at its stats. It has +6 to hit. Damage is 2d4+4. Get it together people.

@ElemenalDusts @dungeons but the bot thingy said fight!

Ready for a new character?

@ElemenalDusts @dungeons the Dungeon Guide has been awfully wrong. If people are believing it that could be trouble.
@dingodog19 @ElemenalDusts @dungeons damage done, but I’d say people are listening to the Dungeon Guide. Is it run by the monsters in the dungeon? “Quick, tell them to fight the draft horse. It will be an easy kill for us.”
@dungeons The pony almost killed us, maybe let's not try it with a draft horse? We're level one. Hooved animals are bad.
@sarahv @dungeons
Horses are bad!
Ponies are bad!
Swarms are bad!
...Weasels have also proven problematic...
@lurk_morrison @dungeons I've changed my mind about how to play this game. Everything should be voted to "avoid" except nobles and guards.
