I never expected shrinkflation to hit a 10lb bag of ice.
@paul I'm more concerned by the proclamation that Ice is Food.
@perovskite @paul That caught my eye too. I just read through the website….it’s wild 😅 They’re VERY serious about that claim.
@perovskite it’s a bit naff, but they’re trying to say it should be handled like food since people then consume it. Can’t be bagging up the ice that’s fallen on the floor.
@perovskite @paul interestingly I found out that is printed on the ice bag so that people with food stamps know it’s covered and not an out of pocket expense.
@paul If this is shrinkflation it's been going on for awhile; my store has sold bags of ice in 7 and (i think) 15 pound sizes for years now.
@paul I’ve been noticing this too. The only benefit is that 7lb plus cans fits a lot better in my cool bag than 10lb plus cans.
@paul On top of that, it’s only 6.7 lbs formatted.

@paul

The explanation is right there on the bag:

ICE IS FOOD!

@paul Damn, that's cold.
@lexfri @paul What’s cooler than being cold?
@lexfri @paul Plans to manufacture a bigger 10lb bag again have been put on ice.
@paul There’s a 30% In Ice Purchase fee.
@paul that’s a common standard and seems to be geared to cooler size with room for one 12 pack.
@paul but it’s „Premium“, so it’s more then just a bag of ice
@paul at my gas station there is a price for a 5 pound bag, and a price for a 10 pound bag, and I was very confused when they charged me a price that was neither. Then I was even more confused to open the outdoors cooler and not see 5 pound bags and 10 pound bags, only 7 pound bags
@paul You can buy ice from McDonalds, it’s dirt cheap and comes in a larger bag. Like 0.89¢ a bag if I remember.
@RollingGoron I know but don't remember the price I think they are 5lb bags though.

@paul my favorite (and often quoted) brand of ice had this on the label:

A Luxury You Can Afford!

Almost as good as Ice Is Food

@paul Portion control. Eating too much ice is bad for you.
