Wil Wheaton on striking with his Space Mom. #SAGAFTRAstrike #SAGAFTRA #WGAstrike #wga #StarTrek
@SazeracLA it's enraging what these parasites are doing with the talent. yes, PARASITES.
@SazeracLA Finally, Dr. Crusher has something to be proud of Wesley for.
@halfcocked That was unnecessarily rude.
@SazeracLA Even Wil Wheaton jokes about Wesley being annoying.
@halfcocked He’s 50 years old and played that (initially poorly developed by the writers) character when he was 15. Grow up.
@SazeracLA @halfcocked Last I heard from him was "I'm dropping social media because I *still* get dogpiled by Wesley haters".
@emurphy42 @halfcocked Indeed, he joined Mastodon about five years and was instantly set upon by malevolent assholes, because they didn’t like a character he played 30 years ago. For those people I have a cornfield for Anthony Fremont to wish them into.
@SazeracLA
I thought the issue was he posted transphobic comments on a server dominated by trans people? I only vaguely remember the controversy, but I'm pretty sure it was a trans-related thing?
@emurphy42 @halfcocked
@emurphy42 @ddlyh @halfcocked No. He was, IIRC, on mastodon dot world. Someone pranked him, he reported the prankster, who was trans (and he almost certainly had no idea), and everyone overreacted and accused him of being transphobic because of the report, which is not true. He was dogpiled as soon as he got here.

Twitter rival Mastodon isn’t safe from online mobs either

The mass reporting and suspension of actor Wil Wheaton prompts the open-source platform to examine its moderation tools.

The Verge

@SazeracLA The main controversy the way I remember it is that he recommended a blocklist that was maintained by someone who had beef with some people who were trans, so they and their connections were on the blocklist. As a result, Wheaton was labeled a TERF and booed off the server.

@halfcocked @ddlyh @emurphy42

@SazeracLA @lisamelton Wil Wheaton is a national treasure.
@SazeracLA @lisamelton There’s good people, and then there’s Wil Wheaton. A step above. He’s been through some stuff, and he’s speaking truth to power.
@lisamelton @bubbajet To paraphrase Wil himself, he is Teh Awesome.
@SazeracLA he's just such a decent human being.

@SazeracLA

I love that he himself refers to Gates as his Spacemom. And honestly, she's more of a mom to him than his birth mother ever was or will be.

@atatassault I do too! And she absolutely is. Also it’s clear that Jonathan Frakes is far more of a dad to him than his biological one.

@SazeracLA Wil Weaton also posted on his website:

> We must now fight for the future of our industry in the face of changing technology, the same way our elders fought for us in 1960.

> To give some sense of what is at stake: There are actors who star in massively successful, profitable, critically acclaimed shows that are all on streaming services. You see them all the time

If not now, when?

We in Labor aren’t hurting our industry. We’re fighting to save it from predatory sociopaths who will gleefully watch people lose their homes and go hungry, rather than release 2% of their grotesqu…

@SazeracLA it's really nice that after all those years, we can still rely on Wil to do the right thing.
@SazeracLA why the heck are they all such good persons 😭
@SazeracLA @europlus i'm embarrassed to say how many seconds it took me to comprehend Wil's comment about his parents stealing his salary, on account of posing with his "mom" in the first picture, who would've presumably had comparable income at the time 🧠🙃🤦
@SazeracLA the virgin biomom vs the chad spacemom
