This is a Silicon Valley billionaire funded project, so, not a chance.
@georgetakei Hi, that link is broken - you have "/@/georgehtakei" when it should be "/@georgehtakei"?
edit: actually, it's suddenly working for me now. Weird. Sorry!
Also - there do exist other mastodon servers that allow long-form posts. Migration is a bit of a pain, though - in particular your post history does not (currently) get moved.
@rbos If effort must be taken, it's a good warning sign to look closer.
Bonus points for forcing people to look closer.
@georgetakei FYI, there are variants of Mastodon permitting longer-form content, e.g. kbin. Which would then continue to let your followers on a short-message variant follow you and see your content.
A corporate-controlled walled garden ain't it.
To further elaborate with slightly more stress:
"where we can continue to build a community" β fragmenting your community isn't building it.
When I click that link it says "profile not found"
@georgetakei
This site doesn't seem to be federated and vulnerable to yet another example of #enshittification
Being centralized and having unknown investment interests it risks falling into the same trap as other centralized social media.
The future of social media should be federated and public service focused without profit interests looming around the corner to ruin it at any time.

Nope. I'm done with the oligarchs.
I just can't do another "Billionaires" attempt at social media.
Also, I'm not going to allow and let them get richer and exploit my data, as stated in their TOS. Nope. Not a chance.
@georgetakei With your name and political standing, you could kick social media into the 23rd century.
Please consider asking the owner of "Post" to implement ActivityPub. I would happily follow you then. The other option is to change to a service, that already implements this and allows you to write long articles.
Please, don't feel pressured. I like your writings independent of your technical choices.
@georgetakei Nahβ¦
Good luck tho in your endeavors.
who owns it
I wish you good luck and success on Post.
For my part, I will keep following you here on Mastodon, I would rather not support platforms owned by techbros.
"Plus Γ§a change, plus c'est la mΓͺme chose"
It's time to break the cycle.
Post backed by a16z? Who backed Elon's takeover of Twitter?
I dunno George...... I like not being the product...
@georgetakei
Looks cool.
Where can I find out more?
Who runs the site? How can I access it? (i.e. is there one official app only?) Is it open source? Do you have complete control over your own data? etc. etc.
When I go to the site all I get is a login prompt.
@georgetakei I wish you all the success on Post but there's no way I'll be heading there.
The strongest reason to use Mastodon is political - it's run by the people for the people on code that is free - as in freedom - and it's a critical plank in the resistance to the corporate take over and monetisation of our means of communication.
If you ran a blog I'd follow you there - you could even invite people to donate to support your work if that's required.
@georgetakei I'm really glad to hear that you'll be sticking around here. You're the reason I first came to Mastodon & to this server in particular.
I will always be a fan of yours! #LLAP π β€οΈ β¨
@georgetakei I hope you reconsider.
Longer posts are possible on some instances, and some Mastodon compatible alternatives like calckey/firefish even let you import your toots
@georgetakei
If it's not decentralised, it will die.
Good luck in your temporary elite club. Where you turn your back on people if they don't want to join.
And see you back here later.
