New #Linux and #OpenSource News video!

In this one, we have the Cyber Resiliency Act, a new EU set of regulations that might seriously harm Open Source software, we have repairable laptops from #Framework and (in the future) from #Lenovo, and we have some big performance improvements for #Intel GPUs on Linux:

The Linux Experiment Podcasts

@thelinuxEXP @tlenewspodcast With the disastrous anti-democratic legislation in the recent years - #MiCa, #ChatControl and now this piece of crap - I've gone from proud EU citizen to full #EU skeptic ... This is why EU will never catch up to the #USA, because it's overregulated Orwellian nightmare. EU must reform or I don't want to be part of it. I understand why #UK got out more and more every day ... Fuck EU!

#brexit #EUmustReform

@PeterSoukup @thelinuxEXP @tlenewspodcast

😂

What an embarrassing load of rubbish:

Brexit was won /because/ of the ORWELLIAN lies and manipulation.

#feckofflibertarianbullshitters

@proscience @thelinuxEXP @tlenewspodcast "What an embarrassing load of rubbish" Yeah, well, I guess everybody who has a different opinion than you is a moron. Most people with normal social development outgrow this childish way of compensation by the age of 20. Only dumb people can be manipulated, I guess all the UK citizens who voted yes are stupid in your eyes. Only about 15% of the electorate is like that. The rest was probably pissed with the exactly that kind of crap I was referring to.
@proscience @thelinuxEXP @tlenewspodcast There were vicious lies on the pro-brexit side, I'll give you that, but it's not the whole story. Usually the losing side cries that the opponent was lying because they're too afraid to admit the other side simply ran a better campaign.
@PeterSoukup @thelinuxEXP @tlenewspodcast
As long as the individual countries want it ....but at least we have an EU courr of justice where they already threw out several iterarions of data retention. In some states the data securoty isnt strong and rely on the EU court
@thelinuxEXP @tlenewspodcast Great as always. Hope the EU reconsider their position...
@thelinuxEXP @tlenewspodcast I'm able to follow the podcast on AntennaPod, but I'm unable to leave comments on it using my mastodon ID. I also need authorization to follow from Mastodon, so maybe it's a related issue? Unless it's intentional, of course.
@PVTejas @tlenewspodcast That’s weird, I don’t have any follow requests for the podcast (not sure that’s even possible)

@thelinuxEXP @tlenewspodcast It tells me "follow request waiting for approval" when I send a follow request from mstdn.social, and the page says "you already sent a follow request to this account" when I put my @handle@instance in podcast.thelinuxexp.com

Could it be the two instances not playing well with each other?

@thelinuxEXP I like eu, but sometimes I think that the regulators sitting in Brussels are a bunch of very bored in their work morons.
@MartinBe I think they just have no knowledge of certain topics and they don’t feel like they should ask people who know for advice…
@thelinuxEXP That too, yes. The whole problem is, that they don't want to learn something new, or anything at all. Imagine a group of old grandpas and grandmas who are reading out lout, one by one that same book over and over again for years. But they haven't realized yet that they were sitting in the library cafeteria. Same is in the eu parliament. Oldboys who don't want to give a way to young people. To people who can think about the future instead of keeping their butts deep in the past.
@thelinuxEXP I get what they are trying to accomplish but they are putting the blame on the wrong developers and giving big companies an easy out.
@thelinuxEXP Ooh, the Framework 16 looks so promising. It's both repairable and powerful, plus its design is sleek, yet bold (aka not too gamery (Is that even a word?)) and it's probably even bringing upgradeability back into the laptop industry. I'd love to pay for it when I can.

Another laptop I would like to see from Framework, though, is a PC tablet. It'd be awesome to see what they'd do with that form factor, especially with most other PC tablets not looking to be worth it and Framework's previous products looking great too.
@thelinuxEXP the peertube video wouldnt play in mpv for some reason

@thelinuxEXP

For reference, the text of the #EU #Cyber Resiliency Act: https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/HTML/?uri=CELEX:52022PC0454

Number 10 there does exempt free open-source software from the law, but only if carried out as a strictly non-commercial activity.

The #EFF elaborates on why this is still a concern: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2023/05/eus-proposed-cyber-resilience-act-raises-concerns-open-source-and-cybersecurity

@mooncorebunny Yeah, that’s the issue: the definition of a commercial activity is extremely wide and would basically include every FOSS project.
@thelinuxEXP Bashes Lenovo ThinkPads for "looking terrible, they are super big and they are generally not better built anymore" and ends clip with shilling terrible looking, super big and generally not better built computer company 😜
@sebulon They are definitely much better looking and definitely not as big 😂
