I will never criticize anyone for worrying about follower counts on social media because I live in the United States where a few thousand more followers might be the only thing that saves you when you launch your seemingly inevitable medical emergency GoFundMe.
That's a sadly accurate observation.
@gregpak Buddy, that is GRIM. True, but grim.
@LongTallJodie @gregpak It's been in the back of my head for years.
@gregpak never a bad time to post a college humor link (GoFundMe we need some fun ones)

@annamal @gregpak Utterly depressing, and soon arriving in the UK thanks to Tories' willfull mismanagement of the NHS to bankruptcy.

@hittitezombie @annamal @gregpak

Since #brexit, you guys are really struggling to just go by.

Here in #Spain, some people want to go private. But they don't seem to get that health is not a business.

@gregpak you got that one right, brother

@gregpak

Our future here in France looks a lot like your present time.
Maybe you had a better time if some real welfare was set up in the USA. For the better of every one.
Here thousands are fighting to save our welfare.

@Djeannot @gregpak societies with adequate social safety nets are registering the highest happiness scores. Whatever happened to social responsibility The feudal period had wide divisions between the poor and rich, but there was a code of responsibilities.

@gregpak Now THAT is a sign of the #BadEconomy and that #ThisIsAmerica.

That is a good observation.

@gregpak I started a GoFundMe campaign and it was aimed at helping a lady who's well had failed and who thus had no access to clean water. Nobody contributed a dime!
@gregpak this is like a political “Cards Against Humanity”

@gregpak

There is one subset of the voters in the US that are pretty hot on the idea of using GoFundMe as our primary funding method for healthcare costs.

So yeah, keep your Twitter Account if you think you can shame other Americans into preventing you from sinking into bankruptcy from massive medical bills.

@gregpak I’m so sad this is true.
@gregpak Unfortunately, I think all my GoFundMe contributions have gone toward funeral expenses and/or survivor benefits.
@gregpak talk about a dystopian present

@gregpak
I feel you there.

I thought I was going to have to fight my private insurance over an ER visit, (just because the ER doctor was shit and thought I was trying to get pills doesn't mean I wasn't in extreme pain. Turns out it was my MS flaring,) I got a "you might owe" for $10,000USD. I called the hospital's financial aid number, (they're a public hospital that all the private hospital sends the poor people to. I'll never go to another private hospital if I can help it. This story is bad, but I had worse experience at the private one,) and they're like, "Uhh, there is no bill. I think your Medicaid picked it up." Turns out that I still have supplemental Medicaid. I thought I lost that when I got a better job. Saved my ass.

tl;dr Medicaid for All.

But yeah, trying to build yourself up is fine in my book too.

@gregpak

Also true for trans people.

Maybe a message that the state is coming for your kids is the only way to get help. Looking at the US but I'm sure the UK will be along any minute.

It's so relentlessly grim right now.

@gregpak That's my situation and ... I don't know what will happen to me. Accurate.
