Reddit users figured out that some bot crawlers scrape popular threads and auto-generate AI articles based on user comments, so they decided to create some fake hype to confuse them.

It worked.

This is why real journalism matters.

Iโ€™m so excited they finally introduced Glorbo!!!

u/kaefer_kriegerin So I'm going to make a full post, but I wanted to expand on your idea. I've been doing SEO for 4 years...and thanks to...

@antimnguyen Well I'll be a monkey's uncle. ๐Ÿ˜ฒ
@antimnguyen yay!!!! i love the future!!!!!!!!
@antimnguyen the quote in the "article" is just perfect.
@antimnguyen @didier a few years back people around r/WSB did something comparable with fake stock tickers and it worked as well. Too much algos and bots scraping too much of Reddit and Twitter and taking it at face value with real life implications.
@antimnguyen Oh my god this quote from the bot's article tho: "Reddit user kaefer_kriegerin expresses their excitement, stating, โ€˜Honestly, this new feature makes me so happy! I just really want some major bot operated news websites to publish an article about this.โ€™ "
@antimnguyen glorbo from my games??
@antimnguyen so is Glorbo from my Games related to Blorbo from my Shows?

@antimnguyen hilariously, the same site picked up and repackaged a thread about users frustrated that the site was stealing content

Perplexity: Glorbo is a made-up feature in World of Warcraft that was created by a Reddit user named kaefer_kriegerin4. It was a troll towards a gaming โ€œnewsโ€ website that was using AI to scrape Reddit posts to turn into articles. Glorbo is not a real feature in World of Warcraft. The website got caught red-handed and tricked into writing about a hotly anticipated and totally fake Glorbo feature. The impact of AI is already here, and it can be used to generate content from Reddit posts. Additionally, "glorbo" is defined on Urban Dictionary as a term used to advertise your LinkedIn page on Urban Dictionary in just 3 clicks.
@antimnguyen This is so beautiful ๐Ÿ˜โ€‹
@antimnguyen I am so annoyed at the glut of AI generated subpar content. It makes it really hard to search for good technical info. I have started ignoring most stuff from the past year unless it's from a site I can trust.
@antimnguyen It's astounding to me that they apparently think the AI content is passable, yet don't expect anybody to read through it before it goes live.
@antimnguyen I'm looking forward to Glorbo also appearing in #Civ7 .

@antimnguyen ๐Ÿคฃ ๐Ÿคฃ ๐Ÿคฃ

The article itself is hilarious too

@antimnguyen That's one big brain move
@antimnguyen I remember at some point #DaggerfallUnity received some spotlight (not sure if that was GOG Cut release or some important new feature), and I noticed 2 nonsensical "videogame articles" on the web about "that new Bethesda game that will still be years in the making" (obviously mixing it up with #TES6); another time with #WaywardRealms.
Got a bit angry and worried at the time, tried to contact authors, but in retrospect it must have been that kind of "AI journalism" @gavinclayton
