"Apple is raising the price of this subscription from £6.99 per month to £8.99 per month." Bummer
Spotify: "The price of Premium Family is changing from £16.99/month to £17.99/month."
@popey Does that mean they're paying the artists more?

@popey @jamesh Here's an interesting article from a band I like (Public Service Broadcasting) showing the streaming rates they receive from various services.

@popey I see a pattern here : every service provider on the planet is looking at their customers list, and if you're on it, they raise the price ! :-) I need to make sure I subscribe to services your don't ^^
@popey Bin it off and start making your own music!!
@d0od Oh god, nobody wants that.
@popey "invest and innovate" is a good one, GoCardless should really have tried that one instead of "after extensive research on customer needs [we're putting prices up and making the service a lot worse]"

"Hello Andy, We are writing to let you know about upcoming changes to your GoCardless pricing plan." Oh aye? These would be changes that are going to cost me more then are they? (GC is @[email protected] Direct Debit provider) "We currently offer three core pricing plans: Standard, Plus and Pro. Based on extensive research on customer needs and feature use, we’re replacing these with three brand new pricing plans called Standard, Advanced and Pro." I wonder if they will COST ME MORE THOUGH?? @popey thanks for being a fan of premium., Yeah, duhhh
@popey they have more subscriptions, instead of raising prices, how about keeping them the same and enjoy the extra profits
@popey If you stream enough of my music, it’ll pay for my subscription! (This has never remotely happened. I’ve got a total of about $30 royalties, ever)
@popey a lot of cloud-services are bumping their prices :-/
@popey a combination of Google drive (general files) and Nextcloud (phots and videos) is how I’ve chosen to avoid paying Apple more than I need to.
@bigcalm I value the features I get from the Apple service, that I would miss if I used nextcloud.

@popey Fair enough :)

Nextcloud is a viable option if you take a lot of photos and videos though.
That said, I now have the responsibility for keeping my data alive :|

@bigcalm Does it do face recognition yet?
@popey yup. Didn’t know that it was an option. But it’s now enabled!
@bigcalm No, I mean recognise faces in photos. So you can search for a person. Seems it's an option too.

@popey Oh, I see. Not something I had considered. I thought that was a phone thing, rather than Apple cloud requirement.
I don't immediately see an option to enable it in Nextcloud. I'll dig more later.

Maybe @marxjohnson would know?

@bigcalm @marxjohnson If it was a phone thing, I can't see how it would work well enough, given you can't keep all your photos on device forever.
@popey @marxjohnson that's fair. I hadn't given it enough thought.

@popey @bigcalm Yes, #Nextcloud has face/object recognition with the Face Recognition (https://apps.nextcloud.com/apps/facerecognition) plug-in, although it does require a bit of manual configuration.

It integrates well with the NC-Photos app (https://gitlab.com/nkming2/nc-photos) (Android only, but it does have a nice PWA).

Face Recognition - Apps - App Store - Nextcloud

The Nextcloud App Store - Upload your apps and install new apps onto your Nextcloud

@ideclon @popey @bigcalm also in the Recognize app, and a bit easier to set up. Plus if you like the Memories app for browsing photos the integration there is great.

@ohthehugemanatee @popey @bigcalm +1 for Memories.

But I’ve had better experiences with Face Recognition than with Recognize. Face Recognition also integrates across Nextcloud much better (for example, the sidebar in photos).

@popey once you're hooked, you can't kick the habit anymore ;-)
