@popey a combination of Google drive (general files) and Nextcloud (phots and videos) is how I’ve chosen to avoid paying Apple more than I need to.

@popey Fair enough :)

Nextcloud is a viable option if you take a lot of photos and videos though.
That said, I now have the responsibility for keeping my data alive :|

@popey @bigcalm Yes, #Nextcloud has face/object recognition with the Face Recognition (https://apps.nextcloud.com/apps/facerecognition) plug-in, although it does require a bit of manual configuration.

It integrates well with the NC-Photos app (https://gitlab.com/nkming2/nc-photos) (Android only, but it does have a nice PWA).

@ideclon @popey @bigcalm also in the Recognize app, and a bit easier to set up. Plus if you like the Memories app for browsing photos the integration there is great.

But I’ve had better experiences with Face Recognition than with Recognize. Face Recognition also integrates across Nextcloud much better (for example, the sidebar in photos).
