"Apple is raising the price of this subscription from £6.99 per month to £8.99 per month." Bummer
@popey a combination of Google drive (general files) and Nextcloud (phots and videos) is how I’ve chosen to avoid paying Apple more than I need to.
@bigcalm I value the features I get from the Apple service, that I would miss if I used nextcloud.

@popey Fair enough :)

Nextcloud is a viable option if you take a lot of photos and videos though.
That said, I now have the responsibility for keeping my data alive :|

@bigcalm Does it do face recognition yet?
@popey yup. Didn’t know that it was an option. But it’s now enabled!
@bigcalm No, I mean recognise faces in photos. So you can search for a person. Seems it's an option too.

@popey Oh, I see. Not something I had considered. I thought that was a phone thing, rather than Apple cloud requirement.
I don't immediately see an option to enable it in Nextcloud. I'll dig more later.

Maybe @marxjohnson would know?

@bigcalm @marxjohnson If it was a phone thing, I can't see how it would work well enough, given you can't keep all your photos on device forever.
@popey @marxjohnson that's fair. I hadn't given it enough thought.
