Hey everyone,

Wow, what a wild ride, huh? From those first brainstorming sessions that sparked Calckey, to the epic journey that brings us here today, rebranding as Firefish - I've gotta say, I'm seriously blown away.

One year ago, Calckey was just my side project, after being a Misskey contributor for a while. But when y'all jumped on board, you made it so much more. You transformed it from my dream to our reality.

Firefish isn't just a cool name. It's everything we've been working towards. It's late nights, strong coffee, wild ideas, laughs, and even the occasional tears. It's our little space on the web where we're constantly pushing for the next big thing, and always looking out for one another.

So here we are, at the start of something new. Firefish is more than just a rebrand - it's a celebration. A celebration of you, me, and us. It's a tribute to the amazing community we've built together. Firefish is all of YOU.

We put together video that I feel really gets to the heart of Firefish. We wanted to show you guys what this whole journey has meant to us, and how excited we are to be taking this next step together.

Before I go, I just want to say a big, massive, thank you. Thank you to all the patrons who supported this. Thank you to
@blackspike for the absolutely stunning logo. Thank you @angelolz for the beautiful trailer. Thank you to our development team who's made some amazing strides. And thank you all for believing in this wild idea, thank you for your support, and thank you for being part of the coolest community on the web. You guys are the real backbone of all this.

Here's to the next chapter of our journey as Firefish. Exciting times ahead, and I can't wait to see where we go from here!

Posts will shortly follow with release notes, roadmaps, technical details, migration plans. I'll keep this thread updated.

Much love,
Kainoa

"Wait, so what's going to happen to calckey.social?" you may be asking. Well, later today (in a couple hours or so), the server will be migrated to https:///firefish.social . You'll get to keep your same username, login, posts, followers, etc. For now, we're upgrading to Firefish v1.0.0.

@kainoa @blackspike @angelolz @firefish

I don't see documentation on how to upgrade from Calckey to Firefish. Is there any?
@admin @blackspike @[email protected] @firefish That's coming next πŸ˜‰
@kainoa @admin @blackspike @angelolz @firefish Oh thank goodness 😌 hopefully upgrading won't be an issue for docker users
@kainoa @blackspike @angelolz @firefish this is an insult to foxkind but I will tolerate it /silly

proud of ya
@sataa @[email protected] @blackspike @[email protected] @firefish I did a duckduckgo search and it turns out firefox was taken. Weirdly specific but ok. Great minds.

@kainoa So you're going from a bird mascot to a fish mascot. I'm assuming we get to keep the cat ears.

@kainoa Not to rain on anybody's parade, but starting out with three concise sentences about what makes your app different would be more helpful than talking in superlatives.

I want to like Calckey / Firefish, because people I know think it's great, but I'm all for cold, hard facts. Just gimme three bullet points and I am happy. And no, "improved" and "advanced" is not enough to get folks excited.

@kainoa @blackspike @angelolz @firefish SO AWESOME!!!

I love it!!!! Great work everyone!!!!
@kainoa @blackspike @angelolz @firefish Thank you for making such a cool, fun and safe space.I truly believe the work you guys do is helping advancing the fedi in positive and progressive ways. The care not only for the tech but for the design and the user is huge! I am excited to be a part of it and to witness the growth of Firefish and the fedi. I've told you a thousand times how much I love Calckey lol Thank you! Congrats
@kainoa @blackspike @angelolz @firefish Amazing! Congratulations and thanks so much for everything you're doing. Firefish is such an exciting place to be around - we love it here. Can't wait to see how it develops in the future!

@kainoa @blackspike @angelolz @[email protected] Congrats!

Just letting you know: the http for firefish.social is showing an nginx page and not forwarding to https, and the https has a bad certificate.

@kainoa @blackspike @angelolz @firefish Looking good! FYI, some links that I tried to follow off of the Readme.md page were getting redirected to the gitlab login page.

eg. I tried to go to https://gitlab.prometheus.systems/firefish/firefish/src/branch/develop/docs/docker.md

Edit: I can get there if I navigate through the source tree. Looks like the proper link URL should be: https://gitlab.prometheus.systems/firefish/firefish/-/blob/develop/docs/docker.md

Awesome news.

Sorry if I missed the update, is there a way to migrate an existing CalcKey.social account to the new firefish.social server?

@kainoa @blackspike @angelolz @firefish wow. It's really exciting ! I've created a Calckey.world account some weeks ago. But decided to stay on my current Mastodon account. This new fresh branding and development makes me want to join the platform for good 😊
@kainoa @firefish Not sure how much I like the Firefish name, sounds very close to the Firefox name... Cool logo & love seeing the new features for sure though.
@kainoa @blackspike @angelolz @firefish Great new things to come, I can feel it. The Calckey community has been nothing but warm and welcoming since my first day. I can't speak for everyone but I know a lot of individuals on Calckey.social that are here to support and contribute to the platform because it's fun, innovative and open. :firefish:
@kainoa @blackspike @angelolz @firefish congrats!

time to update the naming in the client i'm trying to write :P

@kainoa @blackspike @angelolz @firefish

Congrats calculator and crew on finishing and freeing the first fire-fish release.

Is there a walk-through on upgrading from calckey somewhere?

Is there a new git remote? Is it worth trying to rename the DB and/or unix-user?

Maybe easier to build afresh an migrate the DB?

Thanks!

There's a typo in the build instruction missing an i.

> NODE_ENV=production pnpm run buld

I also ran out of disk-space causing some errors but that'll be mostly the gifs I upload and upgrading the machine's hard-drive space got us there.

Edit button finally live. Yay.

@kainoa @blackspike @angelolz @firefish very cool! having a link to this or otherwise a note about the rebrand in the readme would have saved a bit of confusion before I saw this post though πŸ˜…

FYI, the website's broken in Qutebrowser, which uses QtWebEngine (based on Chromium) as its rendering engine.

It's a weird, niche browser, sure, but I don't generally see websites look broken like this in it.

@kainoa @blackspike @angelolz @firefish I am very very sorry to say this and I hope it doesn't get your hopes down, but I REALLY don't like the name... Firefish is still a fork of Misskey, and forks of Misskey are usually distinguished by their *key names, as you probably know. Calling Calckey Firefish breaks that, and the trailer features things as if they were Firefish specific that are not. Themeing is also available in all other *key software... I love what you're doing for *key software, but please don't pretend you're not *key software, that looks dirty...
@cody code-wise and vision-wise, we're straying away more and more from Misskey. Also, we'd rather not associate with software made by homophobic developers.
@kainoa Since when are Misskey devs homophobic? What did they do? I'm unaware of this
@cody Syuilo signed off on the ban of LGBTQ discussion on Misskey.io

@kainoa @cody

homophobic developershuh?

@kainoa @cody And sorry to jump in, but the logo should be updated to a "positive" version, if indeed you want to show you're heading into the future.
The logo, as it is now, still looks to the negative past (down-left) and not tomorrow (up-right).
I changed it for you. That's basic design 101.
@cybeardjm @cody Thank you for the offer, but no. We went with a professional design studio, but I appreciate you wanting to give feedback.
@kainoa Oh, you mean you paid for that?
As a marketing/coms veteran, am really laughing...
Keep looking to the past then, it tells a lot of your future story...
@kainoa @cybeardjm @cody Down/left is antifascist as well. Always in favor of down/left arrows.
@cody @kainoa Calckey is so incompatible with other *key software by now that shedding the nyame makes complete sense.
The key nyame has caused more than enough confusion as is, and with Misskey v13, the experience is
very different from mainline.
@kainoa @[email protected] @angelolz @firefish Not sure if it's an issue on my end but the link to the docker install docs redirects to sign into gitlab
https://gitlab.prometheus.systems/users/sign_in

I see the link should be
https://gitlab.prometheus.systems/firefish/firefish/-/blob/develop/docs/docker.md

@kainoa that website is so sick tho

@kainoa Firefish!
This is a wonderful name, very kawaii and cool, even for a Japanese person like myself.

I have little knowledge about servers, so I would like to create my own firefish server after Ubuntu's "Easy installers" change from Calckey to firefish's.

Thanks for the great job!

@kainoa me love some firefish
@kainoa @blackspike @angelolz @firefish is the rebranding why calckey.art is not functioning properly? Cant click on a user to get their profile.
@kainoa @angelolz @firefish

The video works over federation, but it does not work on the original instance with neither Librewolf nor Tor browser (probably this means it does not work with firefox).
Also notice that buttons are invisible.
