"The successful French producer Voilaaa transforms the punky song from the Togolese band into a deep-house feminist anthem supported by high-life rhythms, echoing of the early militant and hedonistic years of House music."

Russia’s methods of democratic interference in #Africa tend to be coordinated and reinforcing. #Disinformation campaigns are nearly always accompanied by efforts to interfere in #elections to keep Moscow-friendly regimes in power, to support their extended tenures in office beyond constitutionally mandated #termlimits, or to validate #coups.

Did a post on Lindy Hop and Hellzapoppin some time ago on my blog
https://www.didiermary.fr/swing-lindy-hop-hellzapoppin/ but there's a lot more info here...

-History Of The Lindy Hop Dance-

On May 21st 1927 the Lindy Hop dance was publicly introduced to the world. The Lindy hop is an African American dance which was born in Harlem, New York City.

On that date, the Lindbergh Spirit of St. Louis airplane completed the first transatlantic flight by air, the Newspaper reported “Lindy Hops the Atlantic” and the dance style adopted the headline. The dance has evolved since then with the jazz music of that time and was very popular during the swing era of the late 1930s and early 1940s. Lindy was a fusion of many dances that preceded it or were during its development but is mainly based on jazz, tap, breakaway, and Charleston.

It is frequently described as a jazz dance and is a member of the swing dance family. In its development, the Lindy hop combined elements of both partnered and solo dancing by using the movements and improvisation of African dances along with the formal eight-count structure of European partner dances most clearly illustrated in the Lindy's basic step, the swing-out. In this step's open position, dancers generally connected hand-to-hand; in its closed position, leads and follows are connected as though in an embrace on one side and holding hands on the other.

Lindy hop is sometimes referred to as a street dance, referring to its improvisational and social nature. On March 27, 1932, twelve-year-old Norma Miller did the Lindy hop outside the Savoy Ballroom with her friends for tips. In 1935, 15,000 people danced on Bradhurst Avenue for the second of a dance series held by the Parks Department. Between 147th and 148th street, Harlem "threw itself into the Lindy hop with abandon" as Sugar Hill residents watched from the bluffs along Edgecombe Avenue. There was renewed interest in the dance in the 1980s from American, Swedish, and British dancers and the Lindy hop is now represented by dancers and loosely affiliated grass-roots organizations globally.

Nakibembe Embaire Group

"In Nakibembe, a small village in
#Uganda's Busoga kingdom (one of the country's four remaining constitutional monarchies), locals have long reserved a communal area for musical performances and social events. In the middle of this space lies a deep pit that serves a single purpose: to amplify the embaire, an immense xylophone made up of between 15 and 25 wooden keys that stretches across the trench. Log xylophones are common throughout East Africa, but the way the music is played by the Basoga - an Eastern Bantu ethnic group - is specific and unique, with its own tuning, dances and supplemental instrumentation. Up to eight players can surround the embaire and play simultaneously, overlaying hypnotic polyrhythms while additional members of the ensemble add vocals or play shakers and drums.

Nakibembe Xylophone Group are one of the last remaining groups that perform with the embaire, and as anyone who's caught their live performances will know, they create a complex and layered wall of sound that's completely transfixing wherever it's presented."
