uh were any of you people who signed up to #threads actually paying attention to the onboarding flow?
@gabrielgironda I always preferred the “ThreadCats Solution,” which involved genetically engineering cats to glow in the presence of social media and then working to implant legends and myths into the cultural substratum, about the danger of “sharing” or “liking” photos of glowing cats

@arthegall @gabrielgironda

That one never added up to me. Glowing cats are cool, and anyone would want to spend time around such a cool place.

You see a lot of people shunning black cats for bad luck?

@gabrielgironda what is this?

Disclaimer: I have have not (and won't) download Threads nor sign up with Zuckerberg's Instagram. I'm only curious about whether this image is a joke or an actual screenshot from the app.

Long-term nuclear waste warning messages - Wikipedia

header: How Threads works

each paragraph has a "Learn More" link at the end.

screaming emoji: This Place is a Message
And part of a system of messages... pay attention to it! Sending this message was important to us. We considered ourselves to be a powerful culture.

thumbs-down emoji, inverse of facebook "Like" icon: This Place Is Not a Place of Honor
No highly esteemed deed is commemorated here... nothing valued is here. What is here was dangerous and repulsive to us. This message is a warning about danger.

radioactive icon (circle in centre with three blades, all in a circle): The Danger Is Still Present
In your time, as it was in ours. The danger is to the brain, and it can kill. The form of the danger is an emanation of content. The danger is unleashed only if you substantially disturb this place virtually.

@gabrielgironda @Gargron is that real? I’m not going to install it so I can find out for myself.
@gabrielgironda I wasn't aware of the existence of this message. It reads like a cryptic poem, mesmerizing and powerful. Thanks.
@gabrielgironda This is real, right? Cause… WTF? What do these, well kinda creepy, messages mean anyway? Is this their idea of moderation? I’m confused.
@gabrielgironda @Gargron Downloaded it in a moment of weakness, saw the app privacy list, saw the Meta logo, reminded myself what I had just done, deleted the app. It's another nightmare waiting to happen.
@gabrielgironda I saw the pictures of everything Threads consumes and was like… I’m out.
@gabrielgironda **Learn More** cracked me up
@gabrielgironda
You had me in the first half. 😂
@gabrielgironda it makes zero sense to leave a centralized corporate social media platform and migrate to … another equally-centralized corporate social media platform
@gabrielgironda haha is this because of that movie?
@gabrielgironda this jogged something in my brain.
@[email protected] more than the attention we paid to the Nuclear Toxicity that is Twitter! 😉
@gabrielgironda 🤣
But seriously, the permissions #threads wants is just yikes....par for the course with Meta tho.
@gabrielgironda I am afraid that it is more to it…
@gabrielgironda We are absolutely going to ruin the long term semantic significance of these systems of messages with all the bangin memes.
@gabrielgironda Seems legit and I am happy my goverment protects me from Threads
@gabrielgironda This place is best shunned and left uninhabited.
@gabrielgironda
“This place is best shunned and left uninhabited.”
@gabrielgironda why there is no hashtags on threads?
@gabrielgironda time for a "zuckerberg hides nuclear weapons" conspiracy theory

@gabrielgironda
This looks like a bunch of brain-jumbling mumbo-jumbo used by people to disarm their pro-people opponents.
@gabrielgironda @Gargron I have really been enjoying using Mastodon for the last 6 months or so since I basically stopped using Twitter. I’ve enjoyed the conversations I’ve had, making the occasional post and getting some up to date tech news that I really love. BUT I’m starting to get a little frustrated at the anger of Threads on here. And the belittling of people who want to try it out. Just stop. It’s only making me want to not come back here.
@gabrielgironda That sudden realization this is the perfect Lorem Ipsum text ever written by human hand.
@gabrielgironda I used it for like 5 seconds and hated it
@gabrielgironda
This is pure genius. A little obscure until you know the context, but genius. I recall the "nuclear priesthood" from the Reagan era. Such insanity.
@gabrielgironda no -didn’t notice that .. maybe that’s because wild horses won’t drag me to join Threads. Zuckerberg’s rich enough without my input.
