There is a lot… a LOT… of truth and depth to this simple statement.

“"I think we maybe have to start saying goodbye to some of our favourite [places]. You know, if we see them, it could be the last time.””

Wildfire engulfs popular B.C. waterfall trail, highlighting what can be lost to flames | CBC News

@chris

Good bye, right wing politicians. Good bye, oil and gas companies. Good bye, oligarchs, billionaires and right wing think tanks. Good bye!

I'm saying good bye to the things that should be going up in flames, not the things that we can't live without.

Sadly, thus far, the most victimized seem to be people in poor countries who also suffer from geographical vulnerabilities, trees, fish, all manner of endangered species...oil and gas companies, politicians, capitalists et al seem to be flourishing and tightening their grip on both discourse and economy. I invested in organic popcorn (personal consumption only!)

@danneau @chris

Isn't it about time to remove those malefactors from our land, sea and sky, politics and economics?

@chris I think it’s not just places it will also be people.
@chris I have some coworkers in Port Alberni and they mentioned that the fire out there were scarily close to Cathedral Grove.
@jaymerryfield yup. Just a couple ravines and gust of wind away.
@chris The pace of both change and the accompanying destruction lends credence.

@chris

This is rather unfortunate. This post makes me think about how many places I enjoy visiting or even those I would like to visit in the future will be around when I get a chance to visit them. As someone born and raised on the Nature Isle of the Caribbean (Dominica), a nature lover, photographer, and videographer, this was heart-wrenching to consider that flames can expunge all the beauty in nature.
