Megacorp execs were interviewed about the #WGA strike & were quoted saying their goal was to "break the WGA," and to drag things out "until #union members start losing their apartments and homes"

After corporate counsel reminded the execs of *labor laws*, an update was released saying that actually the execs did not want to make workers homeless in retaliation for exercising labor rights because that would violate #labor laws so its all a big misunderstanding

Hollywood Studios Anticipate Writers Strike Lasting Until October

EXCLUSIVE, updated with AMPTP statement: Regardless of whether SAG-AFTRA goes on strike this week, the studios have no intention of sitting down with the Writers Guild for several more months. “I t…

Deadline

Following yesterday's statements by corporate executives that they planned to drag negotiations out in bad faith until writers became homeless...

SAG-AFTRA is planning to go on strike. Final vote is later today.

This would be the first time both the actors and writers are on strike in over 60 years.

@ashleygjovik Parasites got busted! 😂 Kneebenders worship fiat currency. I never took money seriously. As fast as I made it, I spent it. I realize capitalism was wrong at the age of 14. Every year after that, just solidified how I felt about money. There’s a better way of saving our asses & the planet. And it sure isn’t money and this fake central bank scheme. Fake money. Just pisses me off! Unions are good. Now I hope the knee benders have to give you everything you wanted! Just had to get that crap off my chest.
@humansriseup I would do so many things differently if I understood it at an earlier age. With Apple, I've had to let go of any idea of even being 'made whole' with how despicable they've been, but I will keep fighting with the hope that they will at least get in trouble for what they did. The US EPA matters are definitely there - both the office & the silicon fab plant. Somethings gotta give eventually with the retaliation too. They're like caricatures of rich evil villains.

@ashleygjovik

Couldn’t they have just told the writers to eat cake?

@ashleygjovik
This is the corporate/fascist view of all workers. Not only writers. All workers! Tick, tick, tick…

@jeaton Apple's current position on my whistleblower retaliation lawsuits is blocking the government from investigating, blocking me from getting a new job, and waiting it out until I get cancer from all of the toxic waste they exposed me to & hoping I die before there's ever a decision.

This is their mistake. If that was to happen, I would 1000% haunt their asses.

@ashleygjovik what to hell...

at what point does this fucking-over-of-writers stop?

@ellenor2000 If this doesn't lead to a consumer boycott, I don't know what ever will

@ashleygjovik

Yeah that story should hold a lot of weight in court. /s/

@ashleygjovik A big misunderstanding. Sure, Jan.
@ashleygjovik ah, the legal rule of takesie backsies.
@ashleygjovik Oh good, so since that was just a "big misunderstanding" can we expect some understanding and a reasonable deal in the near future? 🤔😅😑
@ashleygjovik yeaaaah, not sure judges will agree.
They are so dumb and so greedy.
@ashleygjovik
I wouldn't want those executives to lose their homes. Well, perhaps a summer home. Maybe one or two yachts.
@bruce Where are those Orcas when you need them?
@ashleygjovik “sell me your labor at a price i decide or be homeless” is in fact the organizing logic of work in our society
@ashleygjovik so glad to hear it's just a misunderstanding! I bet everyone is very relieved by that

@ashleygjovik let’s all take a moment to remember that home ownership as part of the “American Dream” was largely an anti-communist ploy to get socialists financially tethered to a capitalist economy.

Concessions

Capitalism sucks for workers. It’s common to see the obvious failures of our current system as new horrors, and to conclude that we need to return to some time when things were better. Maybe the “better time” is vague — just a general hand-waving and an exhortation to make things…

@ashleygjovik
"A cruel but necessary (sic) evil."
"A big misunderstanding."
Wow. Just... wow.
@ashleygjovik
I've already unsubscribed from netflix, I have no problem moving remaining subscription funds to artist cooperatives or businesses that do work under WGA contracts. Only 1 needs to fold.
@ashleygjovik I reblogged this on Tumblr. This guy theorises that the whole "break the WGA" narrative was a ploy to try and get the WGA to stop striking. And he suspects the execs are going to break before long due to quarterly earnings going down. https://www.tumblr.com/kbkarma/722665372891938816

amptp’s bluffing by the way

Tumblr
@kbkarma They're bluffing - it's what we have to do in response. Ultimately these corporations can do whatever they want unless the government actually does its job (which it won't with the megacorps) or consumers boycott in a meaningful way.

@ashleygjovik

A cruel and unnecessary evil.

@ashleygjovik I joined NABET and these big companies treat their union contractors like dogs. I hope SAG strikes because this is ridiculous. The whole country loves entertainment and this how we treat the people who create it, by threatening them with homelessness
@Glitterr I really hope they strike too. Its bad enough these executives think this way to begin with, but then saying it aloud like that is just disgusting. They need some sort of check to tell them its not okay.

@ashleygjovik

"A cruel but necessary evil"

Necessary to who? And where on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs does corporate profits sit again?

These people are just disgusting. Grossly corrupt and utterly fucking heartless leeches.

@ashleygjovik Reminds me of what Robert Evans said on a recent Behind the Bastards podcast, when talking about a former Simpsons EP going on the Titan submersible: “Hard to believe there was ever that much money in writing for television.”
