The entire story of the internet is cool people make a community, and then unhinged jerks want in. If you don’t moderate, the communities die.

Musk *is* allowing the worst people online to be their true selves. Antisemites. Transphobes. Misogynists. And that’s why everyone is leaving.

@briannawu Probably not a mistake that he only considers those types of people true people. He probably loves that “NPC” has become an alt-right term to dismiss people with viewpoints they disagree with.
@nofunberg @briannawu He wrote "your true self" but he ment "an asshole".
@nofunberg @briannawu the ignorant are getting played by the “nonplayer characters”
@briannawu I doubt that, personally I don't see any more 'unsufferable people' than I used to see before in my Twitter bubble.
Imo people are leaving for simple technical reasons: The platform is getting more unusable by the day and now it looks like you have to pay for everything, even to read other people tweets. Ideology has very little to do with this, and inferring otherwise is wishful thinking.
@fab @briannawu I also feel uncomfortable on Twitter because of the technical limitations. My Bubble continues to be made up of the same nice people who I hope will eventually turn their backs on Twitter.
@fab @briannawu if you don’t experience hate on twitter, that just means you’re part of the hate on twitter.
@briannawu it is not only the internet ... it happens AFK as well. Cool people found a community and then the jerks want to join (Exhibit A: Berlin Techno Scene in the 90ies).
@briannawu good, gather all the usual suspects in one place so the police can find them quicker.
No, Elon and Jack are not “competitors.” They’re collaborating.

Wherein I attempt to clarify a number of ridiculous and false narratives currently taking hold about Musk and Dorsey’s “rivalry.”

@vanitalo I think it’s dead on. They both have billionaire brain rot.
@briannawu This is also why Elon will never shut down or sell Twitter no matter how many people leave it. Its part of his identity now. Compare this to Zuck who views Meta, Instagram, Threads, etc as merely a business to beat his competitors at.

@briannawu
Don't forget the #Taliban !

"Twitter Beats Out Threads for Coveted Taliban Leader Endorsement
The fundamentalist group thinks Meta’s content policy, which includes a ban on support or praise for terrorist or hate groups, is 'intolerant' "

You are free to be your true self here

@briannawu i wouldnt put it as the one reason why, but it is definetely one of the reasons

@briannawu I think it's fair to be your true self on the internet. As long as you deal with the consequences. Bans, blocks, etc.

I, for one, prefer when people show their true colours from the start.
