Three words: tax the rich.

@Strandjunker I don't think taxing them is enough anymore.
@fr2 @Strandjunker I don't know, we should treat the rich with the dignity they deserve.
As a side note, I recently read about the life and work of Joseph-Ignace Guillotin.
interesting person

@Strandjunker

Tax the Rich at 90%

@NoctisEqui @Strandjunker

Yeah, but, if I was crazy rich I wouldn't want to be taxed at 90%.

Got to keep that door of possibility open.

@Strandjunker we need to start internalizing the idea that wealthy people are mentally ill, just as other hoarders are. The fact that people admire them and give them power over their lives is mind boggling. All three of those men made money by ripping people off: workers whose unrecognized contribution to profit and whose ideas have been stolen, consumers who paid one way or the other for these men's life style.
@Strandjunker this shit hasn't trickled down yet. Except to make us all fucking addicted to the shit they're selling.
@Strandjunker close tax loopholes, taxes won't help. Elon Musk salary $1, Jeff Bezos salary since he founded Amazon 80k this is why the wealth accumulation is so fast.
@Strandjunker That would be a just thing to do, but also quite insignificant. A mere $1000 per capita
In the US in a whole lifetime is not a sea change, I suppose.
@Strandjunker we need a revolution. I will help but please remember I have a bad back.
@Strandjunker they are days away from telling thier employees "let them eat cake".

@Strandjunker tax em hard. Bring out the tax guillotine.

And those who say they're adding so much to the world in value can go eat a bag of Dick's

@ErikBB
Dick's is too good for them!

@Strandjunker

@BrentInMasto @Strandjunker hahahahaha I did not even know that existed🤣
@ErikBB To be honest, and perhaps a bit revealing of my inner middle schooler, being able to show someone an actual "Bag of Dick's" is one of the top reasons to visit Seattle 😉
@Strandjunker
@BrentInMasto @Strandjunker my inner adult has no desire whatsoever to ever go to Seattle, but a small 13yo voice now has other opinions🤣
@Strandjunker for the record how they hell do you Americans put up with that bullshit minimum wage in 2023 like seriously is it Stockholm syndrome or something.
@CraigKendrickNZ @Strandjunker because Americans culturally believe that some people don't deserve a living wage
@Strandjunker I go a step further than progressive taxation. Merely adding an income cap would do. There is no need for any individual to have such an excess of income or even toy with the gross notion that they are valued at such an amount.
It’s really quite simple. Put any money above the income cap that you earn into the community or grow that business. If you don’t do those things then at tax time all of that excess income is taken as tax. #Capitalism #IncomeCap #Tax #Billionaires

@robertnorlyn @Strandjunker

Those fellows didn’t get wealthy from “income”.

@robertnorlyn @Strandjunker none of this was created by income

@Strandjunker

Better : abolish the rich.

No wealth over 10 000 000.
No gain over 5*the minimum

@Strandjunker wow they have been so hardworking. It's only right that hardworking people get rewarded. And their riches trickle down to benefit everyone. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Work_(physics)
Work (physics) - Wikipedia

@Strandjunker I've always asked: Since the serfs outnumbered the lords, why were they so complacent. Now that I'm a serf, I know.
@Strandjunker three words: EAT THE RICH
@Strandjunker wealth tax not income tax
@Strandjunker these richs and many others became rich..They weren't born like this..thanks to tem 100 of thousands have a job.
And the USA is a super super power.
@Laglobule @Strandjunker Most of them were born rich, yes. They inherited a very good starting pile of money. Nobody of the really rich started with nothing.
None of them "earned" it.

@Strandjunker
Meanwhile in germany:

Federal Minimum Wage
2012: None
2023: 12€

Not that bad here.

@Strandjunker tax isn't enough; guillotine pls
@Strandjunker taxing is the kind option. Historically, such large wealth disparities don't end well for those at the top.

@Strandjunker How about: Ban Billionaires. Your capital wealth exceeds 1Bill? Well, tough. Prepare for getting taxed at 100%.

Nobody needs that amount of money.

@Strandjunker
Adjusting for inflation, the 2023 $7.25 is not even the same as 2012, it’s far less: 5.47. If things cost more but you don’t get more at the same rate, you’re not even getting the same, you’re losing.

Adjusting for inflation the minimum wage should be closer to 10 just to stay put, not to mention shouldn’t it be growing?

Trickle down is the biggest scam.

@Strandjunker "But but but most of that is not in liquid assets!"

So? As long as they can have several villas and at least one private jet, they have more than they could possibly need.

"But they need the money to invest in new projects that benefit everyone down the line!"

Yeah, those trickle-down economics from the 80s have really been working out for everyone, huh? The trickle will come aaaaaany day now.

@Rianq @Strandjunker the trickle is a sign of an inflamed prostate
@Strandjunker
I still think a top Inheritance tax is the way to go. But this is an Implementation detail.
@Strandjunker tax the middle class too and increase the VAT
@Strandjunker and what do you think the govt would actually do with the tax revenues?

@Strandjunker or raise the minimum wage and lift all boats. Raise it to an actual livable wage. That is the best redistribution of wealth method. Taxing the rich with complex methods just keeps them in power and the driver seat.

@Strandjunker

2012: Obama is wrecking the economy. We need tax cuts on the wealthy, austerity for the masses
2013: Biden is weecking the economy. We need tax cuts on the wealthy, austerity for the masses

@Strandjunker

Raise the minimum wage to $20!

Tax the Rich.

Break up the Monopolies!

@Strandjunker all got that much money for being inhumane philistines
The Secret IRS Files: Trove of Never-Before-Seen Records Reveal How the Wealthiest Avoid Income Tax

ProPublica has obtained a vast cache of IRS information showing how billionaires like Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk and Warren Buffett pay little in income tax compared to their massive wealth — sometimes, even nothing.

@Strandjunker plus the fact that these things are linked. Billionaires don’t earn their worth. They have it as a direct result of unsafe working conditions and paying their workers poverty wages.
@Strandjunker leveraged stock to live should be taxes like income
@Strandjunker

It'd probably be at least as interesting to see a tighter window of 2019 (pre-COVID) vs 2023 (post-COVID).
@Strandjunker they have taken $1420 from each American

Average US Consumer Price Index
2012: 229.6
2023*: 309.6

Also Raise Wages

@Strandjunker Taxing the rich is a logical step but we may be beyond the stage where the political power to do so has been lost by the past idiocy of American voters. When there is no political solution, what is the next step? Is it a violent one? History seems to indicate it could come. People dance around that question in fear of being advocates of that step. I am not but the inevitability scares the hell out of me.
