@AJMcKay From what I can see, it's worse. I don't use the app for ANY Meta service bc browsers are at least slightly less-bad these days (which I'm sure is why you don't even have the option to do anything BUT the app for Threads)

@AJMcKay I'm definitely not nearly as worried for me as others given that I'm white, cis, can't get pregnant, and live in a safe state (unless/until the fascist Republicans successfully steal the whole federal government)

I'm hoping now though, that maybe if I do better about my own info sec moving forward, I can be a safer resource for when people need help

@LCWebsXOXO It’s far too late to worry about this. They’re all tracking you. Threads is no worse than any other. Move to Threads to kill Twitter so we don’t have to talk about Elon anymore and we can close that chapter. Then kill Threads in whatever form that will take so we can put Meta in its rightful place as well. This is social media chess and we pawns have power in numbers. Play smart moves to take them all down. The weakest right now is Twitter. Use Threads to kill it.

@LCWebsXOXO It also apparently scrapes enough metadata from users to do things like forcibly rename accounts if the algorithm indicates (for the usual terrible set of reasons) that the account had been using an alias. The number of people who really need social networks to NOT automatically link to their government identity is uhhhhhhhh so many SO MANY

@LCWebsXOXO People use social to be social with their peers, friends and family. It’s hard to get that to change. Even the Fediverse has its security flaws amongst other issues. But, I do hope one day users will largely migrate to a decentralised network

@LCWebsXOXO @DavidDarnes Hey there, I don’t rush to defend Meta, however just for your peace of mind, because you’re understandably concerned — on iPhone you can see what apps have requested access to your health data, I have Threads installed, and it is not among the list of apps. Threads would have to ask in a pop up, once installed to access your sensitive Apple Health data. I have heard other developers discuss this, and Meta likely ticked every App Privacy box for expediency✌️
