Musk’s X Corp. threatens to sue Meta over Twitter “copycat” Threads

X Corp. claims Meta used Twitter trade secrets and ex-employees to build Threads.

Ars Technica
@arstechnica HaHaHaHoHoHo
Two billionaires spending other peoples money into the ground.
Why not...
@arstechnica How dare the people I fire be hired by someone else!!! Where's the loyalty!?
@kerouac666 they should mope and feel sorry for themselves for at least a year!
@dantheclamman I declare middle school dating rules where they have to write poems about how I broke their hearts for six months!
@kerouac666 @arstechnica Lol, Zuck should literally reply with just a screencap of Musk's tweet
@arstechnica we're gonna need to break into the global popcorn reserve for this one folks
@arstechnica All the ex-employees that Elon fired?
@arstechnica Because Musk has done famously well in matters involving lawyers.
@arstechnica so lovely to read about something where I don't give a shit which way it goes.
@arstechnica ахахах, то есть няв
@arstechnica this isn’t rocket science. Meta has plenty of experience building social media apps and Musk should have know other social media companies would pick up ex-twitter employees.
@MaybeMyMonkeys Twitter did essentially manage to patent Twitter ten years ago though, so their lawyers can all have fun with that at least. https://www.wired.com/2013/03/twitter-patents/
Twitter Wins Patent for Twittering

Twitter has received a patent for, well, Twitter. Originally filed in 2008, the patent describes a "device independent message distribution platform," and it was officially granted Tuesday by the U.S. Patents and Trademark Office.

WIRED
@scottishwildcat Musk probably fired all the lawyers that knew Twitter's IP, and will go up against Meta's experienced lawyers. Fun times.
@arstechnica when threads got 30 million sign ups in less than 24 hours, I would imagine the mood at Twitter HQ is homocidal.
@arstechnica oh weird, are there a lot of ticked off ex-employees from Twitter? I wonder what could have caused that. Sarcasm.
@arstechnica
First a MMA fight and now this? Elon and Mark should just make out already and get it out of their systems.
@arstechnica May the worst billionaire win? Lose? There’s no way anyone other than billionaires win from either platform existing.
@arstechnica not the cagematch we wanted but the cagematch we deserve
@arstechnica I'd put money Meta. #Musk is a bully, nothing more.
@arstechnica I think this can be settled in the cage!
@arstechnica the letter that he sent tells that many twitter former employees still are involved in Twitter, strange
@arstechnica LOL baseless lawsuit. It's pretty easy to believe that a company that already has made one of the largest social media networks in the world would have the engineering knowledge to make a Twitter-like service.
@cowvin @arstechnica Prior art. Pretty sure Usenet had threaded messaging LONG before that twitter hatched…
@arstechnica that Colliseum fight is going to happen
@arstechnica There must be some forgotten ancient law left somewhere on the books that the judge can order them to have a duel in the park at dawn.
@arstechnica let them fight it out for control and “the unique value proposition” of the corporate media. …as long as individual users can access open platforms, self-owned content, and freedom from censoring political ideologies in places such as the growing Fediverse  . Let the choices available to the userbase and the free market decide which platforms thrive.
@arstechnica Mouhahaha! I was expecting this!
@arstechnica Here's an idea, let's fire BOTH of them into the sun.

@arstechnica
It looks like X Corp is still desperately trying to figure out how Twitter works. If they have already fired everyone who knew their trade secrets, I guess "Discovery" would be one way to get the information back.

I can't help but think there was a cheaper alternative, though.

@arstechnica this person likes to get attention hmmm, breaks his own toy and gets angry for another person because they have a slightly better one
@arstechnica well i support Zuckerberg
@arstechnica let me make a popcorn first 🍿
@arstechnica I don't think the world needs it, but I'm seeing more and more benefit to that cage match
@arstechnica Zuck is slightly less maliciously obnoxious and could have a chance at success considering the antipathy toward Twitter
@arstechnica the netizens will standby @zuck. Rip Twitter

@arstechnica That's what happens when you get butt hurt by employees rightfully criticizing your dumb decisions and fire good people. Abused his power, and the free market pimp slapped him back in his place.

[ slow deep gratifying inhale ] ... ... HAAAA HAAAAAA!

@arstechnica no, no guys. Please stop. /S
@arstechnica my bet is they have no evidence for this and it is just an excuse to snoop around the Threads code base.
