A voice actor who licensed his voice to IBM in 2005 for use in a satellite navigation system found out the rights have been resold to an AI company that allows people to use his voice with their content.

He’s effectively losing work to his own voice powered by AI.

@carnage4life I think that's one of the issues in the current SAG negotiations.
@carnage4life Ugh I hate this Black Mirror episo-- wait. This is reality. F
@carnage4life Voice actors have been (and continue) to lose work to celebrities for years.
@carnage4life @MariaTheMartian sounds like the AI voice company way overstepped the rights assigned by the license and the voice was not actually used with consent. Which is still a problem, yes.
@carnage4life people should be compensated fairly when they license their voice or appearance for generative purposes. A one-off payment probably won’t cut it. You should receive royalties every time your likeness is used.
cc: @dangeratio This is what so-called #AI is only good for: stealing more from the working people.
@IvoGatzinski and chainsaws stole work from lumberjacks too right?
@dangeratio look up what chatgpt is built to do and how it works
@IvoGatzinski It does a lot to increase efficiencies. Generates code in many different languages.
