@christianselig Boost is a Reddit client that you definitely have heard of. People have unofficially patched it so users can use their own API keys and leave the app development to the developer. Please consider allowing us to figure out the API access on our own!
@justomar@christianselig It's not worth it. Either you'll get your API key revoked or at most get banned. It's not a good long term solution. And Reddit will most likely break it.
@Graphine@justomar@christianselig The solution here is to just bail on Reddit all together. They showed their hand with how they dealt with all of this.
@christianselig That’s so sad to see… and I’m updating the icon right now. Thank you for everything you’ve done with this app the last years! Without Apollo there won’t be Reddit for me…
@christianselig you should check out the Lemmy client WefWef. Followed in your footsteps to what a potential Apollo client would look like. If you updated Apollo to use Lemmy I think users would love it!
@christianselig You’re probably buried in well-wishes, but I wanted to tell you how much Apollo has meant to me and has inspired me to start writing my own iOS apps! Thanks for everything, Christian!
@paul@chockenberry@christianselig In all seriousness though, Apollo and Tweetbot were two of my most-used/best-loved apps, and both were kneecapped within the span of a few months. I hope we all learn the lessons of the past and that federation becomes mainstream. We now have a lot of really great third-party clients for Mastodon; I’m hoping Reddit replacements will spring up soon because using Lemmy and Kbin through a browser kinda blows…
@warling@paul@chockenberry@christianselig Both Mlem and Memmy are coming together quite nicely. I too user Tweetbot and Apollo and loved both. Really demonstrates how people love the apps as much as the service. I can’t fathom using Reddit without Apollo.
@andricheli Agreed — Apollo *was* Reddit to me, just as Tweetbot was Twitter. Since those apps are now dead, the services that went along with them are now essentially dead to me as well, which is something that Musk and /u/spez have failed to grasp. I’m only one small user, obviously, but there are untold millions just like me and you.
@andricheli@warling@paul@chockenberry@christianselig I loved the apps far more than the services. Both platforms made it clear from the minute they started taking steps to introduce advertising that the everyday user’s experience was not topping their list of concerns anymore. Any company where that is the case is a ticking time-bomb, not worth investing time or (especially) money in.
@filmfreak75@christianselig for a second there I got worried that something had happened to Ivory, until I realized I’m currently viewing the image with Ivory and I might be slightly sleep deprived 😅
@christianselig It may not be possible, but I’ve tried to switch over to lemmy and there’s an option to export a json file from Apollo in order to follow similar communities. With the last update with Apollo, it can’t be reached any longer. Is it still possible to give people access to the settings?
