Also, while it's fiction, @cstross has some effective idea's about what being a spy will look like with our current technology in his Laundry novels. :D

The real thing about 007's equipment is that everything gets used in the stories.
Q must have great pre-cognitive powers. :D
More likely, if all Q had was a hammer, 007 would only see nails.
@techygeek Welcome!
Even though there's a lot in common, Mastodon is more calm than the bird site, so posts don't really "go viral" and it can feel more isolated and smaller.
The system doesn't inherently hype things and "quote-toots" are not an option, so retoots are about the only way to get things seen. Even then, it takes effort to see threads (replies, parent posts) to take a toot in context since it shows up in the timeline like a standalone post. (There's been a lot of arguing about quote tweets in particular, with former Twitter users sharing how it enriches discussion and long-time Mastodon users not wanting it because it's often used in a toxic way... this is a gross simplification of the conversation but you get the idea.)
In a lot of ways Mastodon feels like a local BBS chat rooms from the '80s with much better graphics, more phone lines, and no dialup delays.
In addition to Infosec.exchange, there's also a DefCon server, HackerTown, and CounterSocial that tend to attract InfoSec folks. #InfoSec #HelloWorld
