#FPQuestion of the day:
What is your fountain pen origin story? How did you discover #FountainPens?

@penfount Fountain pen origin story: Ah, my parents and I did a trip back to china, right before the beijing olympics. I got this adorable fountain pen with the olympic mascots. Only used it for a little bit, but it stayed seeded in my memory until I got to college and had my own budget. Then I got into it in a biiig way...

#FPQuestion

@penfount Study abroad in Germany. All my classmates had Lamy Safaris. I couldn't resist.

@penfount Let’s see, my #fountainpen origin story began in primary school when us kids had to use them and scratchy dip pens for better penmanship; we also learned to write in cursive (Copperplate) and it wasn’t until I moved to another school that I knew how to write in print.

It was not uncommon to see kids with leaked or broken Parker Quink bottles and a huge mess on their shirts and workbooks. Good times.

@penfount Similar story to @alexa488, but I was in a German class, my Pilot G2 broke and I needed a new pen for class the next day. Went into a REWE supermarket and bought the best pens I could find. The best writer out of the bunch was a fountain pen, the Herlitz my.pen. Of course with any new thing I can’t resist doing a ton of research, so… things escalated from there.
@penfount i drew/scribbled constantly as a child. Pre school, so around 5? My father was a frugal man. He was tired of me blowing through ball points and one day came home with a Parker Vector and a bottle of Quink. Set them in front of me on the table and told me I wasn't allowed to use any other pens anymore and it was my special pen, only for me. And haven't used another type of pen since. That Vector was my only pen for years until I saved up to buy a Sonnet my last years in high school.
@penfount We had a foreign exchange student my sophomore year of Highschool (‘88) and he had one. I asked him about it and he raved about them. I bought one for myself—it was the only model the local stationery shop had, a Parker 25. I went through several of them being a kid and not knowing how to keep them from getting smashed in my book bag.
@penfount My first fountain pen was gifted to me when I was 6 years old. I still remember it was a white one with little anchors and sea themed icons on it. Naturally that nib didn’t survive very long. Though something was imprinted in my mind. All through my school career I used (generic and cheap) fountain pens, but then got my awakening of the better pens when I was gifted a Lamy Al Star. And then I got myself a Kaweco pen, Pelikan, Sailor, Platinum, Pineider,… it took off from there.
@penfount My origin story: curiosity. I grew up with ballpoints and never heard of FPs. I felt fancy with my Pilot G2s and such for years (which I still appreciate). Ten years ago, I stumbled into fountain pens online. I bought a Lamy Safari and it blew me away. I still love that well-worn pen!
