SCOTUS struck down AA b/c it’s allegedly discriminatory. Here’s the Facts:
•AA benefitted white women more than all other groups COMBINED—plaintiffs never complained about that
•43% of white Harvard students are legacy or athlete students, of which 75% would not be admitted otherwise—plaintiffs never complained about that
•Asians are 6% of the population & 26% of Harvard admissions—plaintiffs never complained about that

This SCOTUS ruling is 100% anti-fact & 100% anti-Black racism.

@QasimRashid imagine hating black people as much as Clarance Thomas does. Boggles the mind.
@crewchief535 @QasimRashid Especially considering he benefited from affirmative action to get into college.
@QasimRashid I worked as an office manager for a company full of C average mediocre legacy family white dudes. They could barely wipe their own asses. And they paid shit wages to their support staff. They called this smart business sense. I called it exploitation.

@QasimRashid
We must realize the vision of the Radical Republicans and MLK Jr.

However, may I get your source on this?

@QasimRashid

Just like the Founding Fathers intended!

@QasimRashid I'm pretty confused as to why African-American and Hispanic enrolment seem to move the opposite direction in the WaPo graph:

@QasimRashid It's an interesting shibboleth; consider these two facts:

1.) "Asians are 6% of the population & 26% of Harvard admissions"
2.) "Practically speaking, the school (Harvard) effectively mandated that Asian-American applicants score 140 points higher than white students" (https://www.thedailybeast.com/how-america-fell-out-of-love-with-affirmative-action)

Which of those facts pisses you off more?

I think in some way it has to do with how you think of individuals vs. groups.

----

Regarding the decision: schools are allowed to consider individual circumstances, but I don't know how practical it is to use that to address this problem.

How America Fell Out of Love With Affirmative Action

For once, SCOTUS and public are in sync. A poll found 65% of the U.S.—including 57% of Latinos, and a plurality of Biden voters and Blacks—oppose race as an admissions criterion.

@QasimRashid what did you expect from justices appointed by a racist, misogynistic crook based on recommendations from white supremacist Federalist Society?

@QasimRashid The policy goal folks should have for universities should be to have Harvard and friends drastically increase admissions overall.

@QasimRashid You’re wrong about a crucial point…. Asians aren’t 6% of the population; they’re 60% of the population.

Harvard’s student population comes from the whole world rather than just the U.S., so comparing the percentage of students of a certain race against the percentage of the U.S. population of that race is B.S.

It’s an intentionally misleading statistic used to make white students look underrepresented when in actuality they are drastically over represented.

@QasimRashid Harvard was absolutely in the wrong here.

They were abusing their race-based admissions policy to reinforce systemic white supremacy rather than to correct it.

The Supreme Court is *also* in the wrong because they are using Harvard’s bad behavior as an excuse to throw out the entire concept of Affirmative Action, when it’s clear that the problem was specific to Harvard’s implementation rather than a fundamental aspect of Affirmative Action.

@QasimRashid

That we have six fascist lunatics running the country probably should be taken more seriously by apolitical moderates.

It's difficult convincing them, because they don't want to believe SCOTUS could be so distant from what they think it's supposed to be. They'd rather just be like "ehh, they're bad i guess but it's probably fine" than admit their imminent removal is necessary, and we have to guide them to the latter.

@QasimRashid I would have said the same. WAPO posted a chart today showing how different groups did in states where AA is banned nd where it isn't. Surprisingly, Black representation INCREASED were it was banned. Hispanic representation plummeted. Black people are still ridiculously underrepresented, but it seems that AA was helping Hispanics, not them. So, while I agree about the motives of the plaintiffs, I think they got it wrong.
@QasimRashid Sorry, my save of the image didn't work. Derek So posted it above though.
@QasimRashid legacies should have to meet a higher standard than other students since they, presumably, benefited from at least one parent attending an elite academic institution and had the educational advantages that come with it
@QasimRashid "This SCOTUS ruling is 100% anti-fact & 100% anti-Black racism", yes we already knew that.
