So, I am definitely leaving mastodon.social since we know this instance is talking to Meta. I don't want to be apart of that. Anyone have an recommendations on other tech/linux/cybersec instances?

@thelinuxfraud

I'd wait until they officially sell out, however, nothing I know of that's well financed and stable.

@TheActualBrian Serious question, do you think meta will be upfront that they've "acquired" mastadon (or at least which instances)? If admins are under NDA we can't expect them to make an announcement can we?

@Bot4Sale

Honestly, that sounds like a lot of "what ifs."

Did I miss something?
So far, as far as I know, Meta is building an instance and app and lots of admins are vowing to block them regardless.

What else has actually happened?

@TheActualBrian Actually happened,? I don't know. There are rumors that Meta will fund some of the larger instances re your "I'd wait until they officially sell out" comment. And that's the point of my prior question. Would we ever know if an instance sold out? How would we know? Just because nothing has happened yet doesn't mean I want to sit back, unprepared and potentially wait for a freight train to hit me.

@Bot4Sale

Rumors?
From where?

@TheActualBrian You're kidding right?

Also just search here for "meta nda"

Meta/Facebook is inviting Fediverse admins under NDA for β€œmeetings” | Hacker News

@Bot4Sale

No, I wasn't kidding.
Not trying to be rude, but the circle you're in isn't as large as you seem to think it is.

Also, that link, it's one guy making claims with, as far as I can tell, nothing backing it up.

I searched "Meta NDA" and found nothing about Mastodon instances being bought or signing NDAs, except for the link you posted.

Is there any credible information that something sinister is afoot?

@TheActualBrian There's a long list of instances that have agreed to block meta, should it come to that https://fedipact.online/

I'm not sure where the original post is (possibly Twitter) that started all this but there is a post from the mastadon founder talking about NDA's (see image).

Then there's the tags.. #project92, #fedipact #blockmeta #savethefediverse #defederateMeta

πŸ–€ ANTI-META FEDI PACT πŸ–€

@Bot4Sale

...ok, so a lot of people are reacting, but that's meaningless.

Where's the actual proof that:

Any admins talked to Meta
Were asked to sign anything
There's money involved or proposed
Or any of it?

Yeah, a lot of people are freaking out, flexing, etc...
Why? One guy said something?

Where's the actual evidence?

Come on. Be rational.

@TheActualBrian You asked me about rumors remember? I delivered. I never promised proof.

@Bot4Sale

πŸ™„ Cute. Just gotta be "technically correct."

So, now I'm more than "technically correct." I'm damned right.

A bunch of people, scared, freaking out, crippling main instances of Mastodon, because they're jumping to conclusions with no evidence and so full of themselves that they think big, bad Meta is out to get them and they're going to beat the evil Zuck.

Talk to me when facts are available.

@TheActualBrian "Talk to me when facts are available.". Urghh, the whole point of my first post is because of NDA's we might never know the facts.

@Bot4Sale

Oh, well, that's a really good reason to freak out and move your account and ban whole servers and sign a pact and follow the herd and act like something is happening.

You might not ever know about something that may not actually exist.

This is how people fall into conspiracy theories.

Touch grass.

@Bot4Sale

I mean, listen to yourself.

Sign a pact to ban servers that are financed by Meta.

Also, we'll never know who's financed by Meta.

I guess the monsters are due on Maple St.

@TheActualBrian So people who don't want meta wrapping it's known unsavourary and in some cases illegal, business practices around them are freakish herd-following conspiracy theorists, at least according to you.

Some people just don't want to interact with meta, that shouldn't be so hard to understand.

@Bot4Sale

πŸ˜†πŸ˜‚πŸ€£

People who believe an unsubstantiated rumor and then take action because"everyone is saying it" certainly are!

@TheActualBrian @FinchHaven @emma Brian doesn't seem to understand some people like to plan for future possible events, even though they may never occur (has he ever bought insurance? Who knows?). Probably best just to ignore him.

@Bot4Sale @emma

Because taking action now due to fear and paranoia is "planning."

πŸ˜†πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ˜†πŸ€£πŸ€£

@TheActualBrian @emma @FinchHaven where is the fear and paranoia? Show me proof. I see people looking at metas PAST BEHAVIOUR as an indicator of their future behaviour. This isn't rocket science Brian.

You're trolling, right?
Tell me you're not this dense.

Sure, Meta can't be trusted.

Where's the proof that they did any of the things everyone is freaking out about?

Show me the evidence that they:

Met with larger instance admins
That those meetings involved scary NDAs
That those NDAs were to keep turn from talking about Meta secretly financing the larger instances so that they'll be controlled and data mined

πŸ˜†πŸ˜‚πŸ€£

@TheActualBrian @emma @FinchHaven You seem to be ignoring what I've already said. I've shown you a since deleted post from the co-founder of mastadon discussing meta and nda, which is likely one source of the many RUMOURS.

But the fact that you either don't care or don't want to listen is fine.

Fortunately no one needs you to believe in order to take action according to their own circumstances.

Good luck
