I'd wait until they officially sell out, however, nothing I know of that's well financed and stable.
Honestly, that sounds like a lot of "what ifs."
Did I miss something?
So far, as far as I know, Meta is building an instance and app and lots of admins are vowing to block them regardless.
What else has actually happened?
Rumors?
From where?
@TheActualBrian You're kidding right?
https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36384207
Also just search here for "meta nda"
#fedipact #meta #mastodev
No, I wasn't kidding.
Not trying to be rude, but the circle you're in isn't as large as you seem to think it is.
Also, that link, it's one guy making claims with, as far as I can tell, nothing backing it up.
I searched "Meta NDA" and found nothing about Mastodon instances being bought or signing NDAs, except for the link you posted.
Is there any credible information that something sinister is afoot?
@TheActualBrian There's a long list of instances that have agreed to block meta, should it come to that https://fedipact.online/
I'm not sure where the original post is (possibly Twitter) that started all this but there is a post from the mastadon founder talking about NDA's (see image).
Then there's the tags.. #project92, #fedipact #blockmeta #savethefediverse #defederateMeta
...ok, so a lot of people are reacting, but that's meaningless.
Where's the actual proof that:
Any admins talked to Meta
Were asked to sign anything
There's money involved or proposed
Or any of it?
Yeah, a lot of people are freaking out, flexing, etc...
Why? One guy said something?
Where's the actual evidence?
Come on. Be rational.
π Cute. Just gotta be "technically correct."
So, now I'm more than "technically correct." I'm damned right.
A bunch of people, scared, freaking out, crippling main instances of Mastodon, because they're jumping to conclusions with no evidence and so full of themselves that they think big, bad Meta is out to get them and they're going to beat the evil Zuck.
Talk to me when facts are available.
Oh, well, that's a really good reason to freak out and move your account and ban whole servers and sign a pact and follow the herd and act like something is happening.
You might not ever know about something that may not actually exist.
This is how people fall into conspiracy theories.
Touch grass.
@TheActualBrian So people who don't want meta wrapping it's known unsavourary and in some cases illegal, business practices around them are freakish herd-following conspiracy theorists, at least according to you.
Some people just don't want to interact with meta, that shouldn't be so hard to understand.
πππ€£
People who believe an unsubstantiated rumor and then take action because"everyone is saying it" certainly are!

You're trolling, right?
Tell me you're not this dense.
Sure, Meta can't be trusted.
Where's the proof that they did any of the things everyone is freaking out about?
Show me the evidence that they:
Met with larger instance admins
That those meetings involved scary NDAs
That those NDAs were to keep turn from talking about Meta secretly financing the larger instances so that they'll be controlled and data mined
πππ€£
@TheActualBrian @emma @FinchHaven You seem to be ignoring what I've already said. I've shown you a since deleted post from the co-founder of mastadon discussing meta and nda, which is likely one source of the many RUMOURS.
But the fact that you either don't care or don't want to listen is fine.
Fortunately no one needs you to believe in order to take action according to their own circumstances.
Good luck
