More ships join search for missing Titanic sub amid fears of dwindling oxygen supply

The race against time to find a submersible that disappeared on its way to the Titanic wreckage site entered a new phase of desperation on Thursday morning as the final hours of oxygen possibly left on board the tiny vessel ticked off the clock.

"Futility is a novella written by Morgan Robertson and published first during 1898. It was revised as The Wreck of the #Titan in 1912. It features a fictional British ocean liner named Titan that sinks in the North Atlantic Ocean after striking an iceberg. The Titan and its sinking are famous for similarities to the passenger ship RMS #Titanic and its sinking 14 years later."

Here's my #TwilightZone question of the day.

As I understand it, the search pattern for #OceanGate's #Titan submersible was narrowed because Canada's CP-140 Aurora anti-submarine plane picked up the sounds of banging at regular 30 minute intervals. This pattern was detected for 2 days straight.

If, as experts have said, the Titan imploded quickly and probably shortly after launch - where did the banging sounds come from? #Titanic

Under the wide and starry sky,
Dig the grave and let me lie.

And I laid me down with a will.

Home is the sailor, home from sea,

Disbelief and anger among Greek shipwreck victims’ relatives as millions spent on Titan rescue effort

Disparity between rescue responses has sparked debate in Pakistan about double standards

The Guardian
@Norobiik I am not sure but I don't think the Greek were involved in the rescue operation of the submarine, they don't have that level of equipment.
@pmroman That's right, only the US and France brought deep sea robots to the Titan rescue effort.
@Norobiik So the equipment was 3 weeks away from Greece and submarine robots are able to locate, but not to rescue.
@pmroman The most the submarine robots can do is locate and map the debris field. Though the one from France has robot arms that could have disentangled the Titan if it was trapped. I think the ships would have been more use in the Mediterranean but Greece, Italy and the other countries there have more than enough rescue ships to have handled the refugee ship.
@Norobiik That's right, it wasn't a problem (in the Mediterranean) of number of ships, but of speed: at 15 to 20 knt it will take to the closer Italian coastguard about 15 hours to assist the Greek, for France and Spain 3 days or more. The central Mediterranean area is under Lybian coastguard, the east part I believe is Greece. Without the NGO's rescue vessels, the trafficking boats must arrive far closer to Europe to force their rescue by #EU vessels so they can apply for refugee status.
@pmroman I often forget how big the Mediterranean is. It looks much smaller than the other oceans but it's still a huge body of water. Thank you for putting it in perspective 👍
@Norobiik Yes it is 2000 nm W to E, and about 800 nm N to S.
1 nm = 1.852 Km.
