I suspect all the dark humor about the loss of the Titan and all aboard simply underscores that most people on Mastodon think billionaires are okay — deep down.
@spaf took me a second to laugh at that and guarantee my trip to hell
@kkeller @spaf same, but it will be worth it.

@spaf

I wouldn't want to dehumanize them or it'll ruin the joke when it turns out the CEO killed himself by cutting corners on safety to boost profits on quarter million dollar boat tours for billionaires.

@buermann
In case you didn't know, they did. And in fact fired whistleblowers warning about safety.
@spaf

@iinavpov @spaf

Citations would be very welcome. Or go off on a thread about it with all of them, I'd boost it.

Inside OceanGate’s history of safety complaints as Titanic submarine still missing

Top employee raised safety concerns before acrimonious exit from company

@iinavpov @spaf

Wow. Smart inquiries by Daniel Strauss. TNR folk are on Mastodon where's his handle?

Missing Titanic Sub Once Faced Massive Lawsuit Over Depths It Could Safely Travel To

Court documents reveal a former OceanGate employee had several safety complaints over the tourist submersible—and then he was fired.

The New Republic

@spaf

Well I think billionaires are abusive pricks who cause the deaths of millions of other people through their effect on climate, the economy, and inequality myself, but whatev

Also diving in a submersible vehicle to a depth that vehicle is not rated for is hella stupid, and firing the engineer that told ya so is criminally negligent

But that's a pretty good joke ya got there

@spaf I was hoping one of the #SCOTUS Friends of Billionaires could treat them to An Undersea Adventure... Isn't it Clarence Thomas who enjoys #BillionaireBoatRides?
@spaf They're good people at bottom.

@spaf Too soon.

Also too fucking good. But mostly too soon.

@spaf Had me in the first half etc. 😂😂
@spaf as fertilizer, sure
@spaf I don't think that's it.
@spaf I see all those comments and I just don't see how people can sink so low.

@digitalraven @spaf

I plumb to he depths of that question every day

@spaf i'll be vocal in saying I do not think billionaires are OK. I think there is something fundamentally wrong with someone who hoards that much money, so much that they couldn't ever conceivably use it all themself.

Edit

I just got the joke haha...

@spaf I busted a bladder chortling
@spaf All billionaires belong deep down.
@spaf they must be crushed (by pressure) down there.
@spaf
I had to read it twice. And then 😂😂😂😂😂

@spaf Of the dead speak only good.

A bunch of billionaires are dead.

Good.

@spaf look, if you have that much money and you kill yourself with it, you shouldn't have had that much money.
@spaf pressure cook the rich
@spaf Interesting. The humor I've seen has struck me as surprisingly light-hearted, but I haven't keep track of specific examples. I'll have to keep an eye out for them and rethink how I feel about them.
@spaf
They died doing what they loved: violating safety standards and paying far less than is necessary to get bare minimum results.

@spaf this one took a minute but I eventually arrived at the joke.

It was hidden in there pretty deep I think

@spaf
I feel like a lot of people are missing what's right below the surface here.
@spaf Some orcas discovered a yacht that goes underwater.
@spaf Oooh, I see what you did there! 😁
@spaf Given the CO2 footprints that billionairs tend to have my guess is the Titan did a better job for the enviroment than expected.
@spaf nope. Billionaires are irredeemable sacks of shit. I will be singing “ding dong the witch is dead” each time one of them dies.
@spaf go to TikTok and you’ll see how people *really* feel 😂
@spaf
🥥 Hey, @spaf, I'm already headed for #hell in the #afterlife, if there is a hell and an afterlife.
So thank YOU for the #Titan joke.
PS: I spent Thursday largely silent on the topic of Titan. Now, having observed an appropriate amount of time respecting the sad submersible story and the innocent victims, I am spending Friday seeking as many Titan jokes as I can find. Feel free to tag me in any that you're aware of. Thank you. 🥥
@spaf
The filthy rich are always looking to get bailed out by the public when one of their gambles implodes.
