If you are okay with having Muslim, Jewish and Hindu students sit through a Christian prayer in public schools, and not okay with having Christian students sit through a Muslim, Jewish or Hindu prayer, then it’s NOT religious freedom - it’s religious oppression.

ICYMI: I am an #antitheist - I am actively against ALL organised religions.
I firmly believe that NO religion should be taught in schools and people should be banned from joining them until they are 16 - when they can decide for themselves. So no baptisms, christenings, bar mitzvahs, etc. Those things are literally child abuse!

I won't worship anyone or anything if it's compulsory. If their message is so strong, then their testimony should be enough to get people interested. If it's not strong, people may be compelled to pretend, to avoid persecution or ostracism, but that's from necessity and not zeal.

@juglugs As a Buddhist back in public school, saying "under God" while saying the Pledge of Allegiance was uncomfortable - I ended up omitting the phrase while saying it as my personal compromise, but didn't announce to anyone that I did so - it seemed too trivial to mention.

I am so old that my second grade teacher got away with leading us saying The Lord's Prayer in a public school classroom. This was in Kansas City, Missouri in the 1950s. I am Jewish and was very uncomfortable with the situation, but powerless to stop it at the time.

The Rights' version of freedom is you're free to be a conservative white Christian racist bigot but that's it. Oh & freedom is really only for a certain section of cis men that fit the general characteristics of stereotypical MAGA gun loving man. Even those Christians who follow what the Bible actually teaches are not welcome to freedom. In Britain replace MAGA with toff. So not really freedom at all. Its just they want to be able to be nasty with no come backs.

@juglugs When i was quite young, long ago now, the teachers took the position of just telling students 'this is a quiet period where you may reflect, do homework or whatever you choose for the next 15 mins as long as its quiet'.
Instead of telling people what they can't do, why not just do that?

@juglugs Religious freedom is above all freedom FROM religion, so the only acceptable form of "prayer" in public schools is NONE. It's what's meant by the separation of church and state.
