I made a (well-coordinated) LED tote and crossbody bag using the technique of 3D printing translucent tiles onto tulle and inserting them through corresponding holes in the bags' front panels. I sewed long zippers in the lining of both bags to make it easy to access the interior, and attached a flexible LED string behind the tiles with hot glue. A #Pixelblaze controller inside each bag makes it easy to run synchronized patterns. I'll be writing up a "how to" guide on them for @makemagazine.
@geekmomprojects That is really cool. Would be an interesting read. @makemagazine
@geekmomprojects @makemagazine Awesome as ever, think I need to save up for a #pixelblaze
@geekmomprojects @makemagazine I'm always amazed by your projects! Really cool stuff <3

@geekmomprojects @makemagazine "how do you know they'll match?"

"Because I tell them to match"

@geekmomprojects @makemagazine I will definitely be on the look out for this Make Magazine. My son used to be subscribed and he still has all the issues from when he was a kid.
@geekmomprojects @makemagazine this is awesome! Nice work - thanks for sharing!
@geekmomprojects @makemagazine Wow! That looks so polished. I am looking forward to the write-up. This is the kind of thing that makes me want to get an FDM printer (and keep my Make subscription current).
@geekmomprojects @makemagazine Incidentally it also makes searching for stuff inside the bag much easier 😜

@geekmomprojects
Honestly, most bags need light on the inside, not the outside. 😄

SCNR, anyway, looks fantastic.

@geekmomprojects
These are incredible! If you feel like making them to sell I would definitely buy one!
@makemagazine
@halo @makemagazine thank you! I did think about doing that, but I think that I'd have to charge a prohibitively high price to make it worth my while. It would help a lot if I got someone else to do the sewing for me, because it's just not an efficient use of my personal time. Hopefully the tutorial will help make this project accessible to others.
@geekmomprojects
That is absolutely fair enough. I'm not an electronics nerd but my partner is, maybe the present can be doing it as a fun project together instead of the finished item 😊 thanks so much for sharing - inspiring!
@makemagazine
@geekmomprojects @makemagazine
This is brilliant and elegant at the same time
@geekmomprojects @makemagazine these are excellent and remind me of a project I did a paid bit of prototyping for years ago which I beleive sold in reasonable number. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/studio-banana/kangaroo-light
@geekmomprojects @makemagazine You’re hitting it out of the park lately.

@geekmomprojects @makemagazine

Also infinitely more useful as a bag than the Project MC2 Pixel Purse! No need to download an app to your phone either

@bornach @makemagazine hopefully a bit more attractive as well!
@makemagazine @geekmomprojects Do you run cellular automata on these?
@geekmomprojects @makemagazine Thank you. This is what the future is supposed to look like.
@geekmomprojects @makemagazine
Wondering if that tech would work to make a flag, or would it be too heavy to catch any wind?
@bwaz @makemagazine it's pretty heavy. It would take quite a strong wind to make it flap.
@geekmomprojects wooow!! This looks so cool, great job!!
@geekmomprojects this is AMAZERBEAMS!! I love everything happening here.
@geekmomprojects @makemagazine
For a brief moment there, one of the patterns was a spinning Swastika.
@geekmomprojects I remember meeting you on a rainy morning in line at MakerFaire, where you had your first article. Quite a journey! Keep going!
