Within a week, #Lemmy has grown by 80,000 users.

If Lemmy were a Silicon Valley start-up, this would be big news.

If Lemmy were Bluesky, this would be big news.

If Lemmy were an A.I. company, this would be big news.

However, with the exception of @[email protected]’s Techdirt, the tech press refuses to cover the #RedditMigration.

@atomicpoet They mean no harm. They're just pretty bad at their job.

@groschi
…which in turn causes harm…

@atomicpoet

@[email protected] @mmasnick its bigger than bluesky (115kish I think?), and got pretty much all of its growth within a week. absolutely insane numbers
@laurenshof Exactly! These are big numbers, and signify that the Fediverse has lots of momentum. But the problem is that the tech press still don’t understand what the Fediverse entails.
Reddit doubles down

Delaying its API changes would benefit everyone — but users have other options, too

@atomicpoet Condé Nast is a hell of a drug

@atomicpoet Apparently #Lemmy is #tankies and has moderation issues that leave certain populations vulnerable, especially #trans people.

#Kbin is another alternative I've seen recommended.

@ricardoharvin Kbin is not a mature project yet.

Regarding why I use Lemmy:

Remember that because Lemmy is decentralized, their moderation issues only extend as far as servers that they control.

Anti-tankie servers, such as beehaw.org, exist.

Less worse is better than worse. If I was focused on the best, most ideologically pure software, I wouldn’t even be pushing for a Fediverse. Instead, I’d still be working on my peer-to-peer mes...

@ricardoharvin @[email protected] I'm a trans woman that runs a queer lemmy instance and moderates several lemmy and kbin communities.

Because both platforms are so new, neither of them have robust moderation features, but they are sufficient to support a strong queer community in relative safety.

There are reasons to use kbin over lemmy, but moderation isn't one of them
@ada @ricardoharvin @[email protected]

Interesting ... I haven't seen anyone talk about moderation features and needs before. I read the docs briefly on what tools are provided to community moderators, and it seemed to cover the bases.

Curious what your thoughts and experiences are? Could be something informationuseful for the community at large? But I'm just asking out of curiosity ... no stress!!

@ricardoharvin @atomicpoet Can you elaborate or is this just something you heard?

The lemmy is no more "tankies" than mastodon is "loli porn".

@levi @atomicpoet I read a thread by a Mastodon migration/tips account – I don't remember which – documenting their conversations with Lemmy mods and expressing the concerns I shared.

From other replies here it seems that those concerns were either unwarranted, or addressed.

@ricardoharvin @atomicpoet If you had've logged in to lemmy.ml a few months ago the front page was spammed with tankie propaganda top to bottom from a single community [email protected]. There just wasn't any other content. I haven't seen a single post from there reach the front page of lemmy over the last month.
