Where did that Reddit AMA go?
Addressing the community about changes to our API

Dear redditors, For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Steve aka u/spez. I am one of the founders of Reddit, and I’ve been CEO since 2015. On...

Doubling down.
"Some apps such as Apollo, Reddit is Fun, and Sync have decided this pricing doesn’t work for their businesses”
Someone needs to learn how to read the room. Damn that’s some bad PR.

So the AMA ended up being 20k almost exclusively negative comments and 14 non answers that just pissed people off more.

Dave Chappelle has some salient advice for next time:

I don't think a 2 day Reddit blackout is going to do anything. Guessing they'll just wait it out and do nothing.

If it was set up as "until things change” it'd be a lot more interesting. Mostly because I think Reddit would panic at some point and do something really stupid, which would be fun to watch.

/r/Videos is doing it right. And the FAQ has exactly what I think will happen.

The future of /r/videos.

Hello everyone, I’ll try to keep this short as I know there’s been a lot going on over the last few days. [When we made our announcement last...

@paul just saw that AppHookup is doing that also.
@paul next thing we will hear from reddit, musk et. al., how pubilcly listed companies are restricted from doing the „right thing“
@paul how does #Reddit find mods? It seems like a thankless job / job of passion and if enough mods quit it will be hard to find high quality replacements. I imagine the best won’t want to “cross the picket line”
@mikkergp @paul they volunteer. Most subreddits post that they need mods and people apply. Reddit as a company doesn’t hire mods.
@ken147 @paul right but if /r/videos closes and Reddit wants to kick out existing ones I assume they’ll have to recruit new ones? Especially if it happens en made with subreddits?
@mikkergp @paul true. Doing that will be an absolute shit show though.

@mikkergp @paul The best subreddits (no hate, inclusive, on subject) has really great mods who either started it or joined the other mods later.

Replacing them won’t happen, expect a quick descent into hate.

It was very telling how different subreddits reacted to this, and it solidified which communities I like or not. Some were very graceful and supportive, others acted like Twitter posts.

@paul if Reddit replaces mod teams from subreddits that go private they’re gonna burn Reddit to the ground.
@ken147 @paul Also, replace with who? New volunteers who don't have one tenth the modding experience of the current team? Or are they suddenly going to hire people with the necessary skills to moderate, something they've not done in a decade and a half of this website?
@paul At what point do we think the board would step in to prevent the bleeding of their user base?
@paul so mods are striking? Can’t say I blame them
@paul You love to see people standing up for something they love
@paul They remove mods then they won’t be able to filter out bad content fast enough. If 4chan finds out Reddit moderation is slow they will attack the site too.
@paul I haven’t used Reddit for a few days now. I actually feel better because of it.
@paul Any chance that toot could get alt text added? (unless it actually has it and I'm somehow not seeing it)
@paul It reads as quite the late realization that *all* for-profit social media sites milk volunteers’ content for personal gain

@paul as a consumer (not as a moderator), do you think it helps to not even use Reddit?

Cause parte of me thinks, of course!

Part of me wants to use Apollo as long as I can before its shutdown.

In any case, just a friendly debate/thought. I likely won’t be looking at Reddit ever again.

@santim if you are going to delete your account, deleting it now vs later is probably better. If you are keeping an account then using the app for as long as you can is probably best.

@paul that’s a good point and strategy.

Ugh it’s grim.

I’m glad Ivory is so up and running. I literally use it everyday. ❤️🐘

@paul Reddit is at least taking heat off those that are usually laughing at Twitter ... RIP REDDIT.
