Stop using Reddit.

Stop using Twitter.

These services do not deserve your continued support by you participating and contributing to them in any way, shape or form.

@gedeonm Now that Apollo is dead, I won’t be using Reddit. It is inaccessible to me now.
@gedeonm I’m actually considering selling my Reddit account. Is it against their ToS? Yeah. Is it immoral, considering what they have become? I personally don’t think so.
@gedeonm Saw the note in Apollo just now. Deleting my Reddit account next.
@gedeonm I haven't used Twitter since the new year began (except for sweepstakes spam). I haven't used Reddit regularly, and now I never will.
@gedeonm go tell the people on Twitter!
@schizanon I am, many of them here are still there. Plus I won’t set foot there ever again.
@gedeonm ironically services that at the very least can contribute some of their popularity to these third party apps!
@gedeonm Yea, Apollo is the only way I browsed Reddit. Without it (because of the insane API prices), it’s just not worth it to me. They need to rethink their monetization strategy, because this isn’t it.
@gedeonm I miss niche forums for sure. At least there is some movement to decentralizing the more common “services” but they really aren’t mature yet (Mastodon being an exception).
@gedeonm Reddit's going to be a lot harder to replace than Twitter.
@gedeonm It's quite disgusting, especially that Reddit isn't even paying their moderators....
@the_alsatian wow they’re not?!
Reddit moderators do $3.4 million worth of unpaid work each year

Volunteers who maintain the standard of content on Reddit’s forums do 466 hours of work every day – labour that would cost 2.8 per cent of the firm’s revenue

New Scientist
@the_alsatian okay wow. Truly Reddit can go straight to hell.

@gedeonm I am certain Reddit management will be in good company with Space Karen there.

Leveraging API's against developers who helped grew the platform should be punishable by a long-stay visit to North Korea.

@gedeonm Bonus: min 3 settings for ads and additional "we want to track you" in official app... as soon as @christianselig Apollo is offline, I'll cancel my 8 year account
@gedeonm I want to, but Reddit is indefinitely harder to replace than Twitter. Lemmy is… not good. Reddit just has so much good user-generated content. I’ll really miss it.
@gedeonm this is also a reason to stay away from BlueSky, but people never learn.
@gedeonm Binned Reddit this morning. Having on multiple occasions posted "Stop using Twitter" on Reddit, it'd be a bit hypocritical if I didn't!
@gedeonm I feel like this would be kinda hard to do bc of how established these platforms have already been, and alternatives like mastodon for twitter will be lower in popularity/population for a while. Takes some time for people to move to another platform if it exists even if its better, ect.
@gedeonm the solution is right there with mastodon, this is how social networking should be done! i wish it gained more mainstream traction
@gedeonm that’s why I stopped using StackOverflow years ago. We are driving their value by using their service.
