Linus Torvalds, in his way, defends trans rights and speaks out against the anti-woke politics.

(Trigger warning: This server does not appear to fediblock very much, so there is some nasty stuff on it.)

https://social.kernel.org/notice/AWSXomDbvdxKgOxVAm

Linus is also in the Fediverse so you can follow him but the server isn't Mastodon and not much Fediblocking going on
I edited my post on this to rephrase my wording on my warning about the link.
@ernie I do follow him and my view of the thread here never saw any of those nasty replies from those losers because they were from some instance called “poast” that is blocked. So I think fediverse blocking is working as intended! Pretty nice actually.
@ernie the poster is from poa.st, which is a certain red flag.
Poast

@ernie Torvalds flamed that guy.
@ernie people really are awful aren’t they? This is why I don’t particularly care anymore if a meteor wipes us all out.
@ernie Linus certainly hasn't lost any of his acerbic wit over the decades!
@ernie I scrolled down too far in the thread. Now I need a bath. In bleach.
@kkeller @ernie reporting the nasty shit from there might be a good idea. Defederating from their instances makes the fediverse a better place.
@JiSe @ernie the entire thread doesn't show up in my logged-in clients, so I can't easily report them. If they do show I will report.
@kkeller @JiSe @ernie You can put the permalink to the problem post in your search box to make it load.
@kkeller @JiSe @ernie that means they're already fediblocked in your instance, so someone else has done that work for you 🤞

@kkeller @ernie if you get that bleach bath please hit me up because I need it as well.

I wonder where kernel.org's moderators are right now.

@kkeller @ernie for those who want a reason to not scroll too far down:

This is just the tip of the iceberg.

@kkeller @ernie but speaking of poast, I urge people to ask the admins of their favorite fediverse instances to block it. Better safe than sorry.
@ernie Priceless! Classic Torvalds 😂👍😎

@ernie I was honestly terrified of what would happen when Torvalds eventually mentioned trans people.

It's not much, but he seems to be on the right side of things. How actively he pushes for trans acceptance is still unclear, but at least he seems to have it mostly right for how he conducts himself personally.

@anniethebruce @ernie Linus can be abusive, a lot. Said that, he has never been hateful. He is more of "live and let live" guy in nutshell, but when the push comes to shove he has always been strongly coming out in favor of personal rights.
@peteriskrisjanis @ernie He definitely has earned his reputation for being a jerk. Though he did take a couple years off kernel work to work on that, apparently he's not as bad as he used to be.
@ernie I should have heeded the don’t scroll advice
@ernie damnit I scrolled down. That is some ugly mustard.
@ernie damn, an old-time foss guy being decent
@ernie lol of course all the asshats are on poast
@ernie Holy shit, way to tell em Linus.
@ernie every time I read his words, it makes me glad I named my son after him ☺️

@ernie

🌈🌦⭐️💥🌋💥⭐️🌦🌈

@ernie You mean the dude behind the free OS meant to compete with capitalism isn't a total chud? Color me surprised... I never would have guessed.
@ernie If I read the thread via my instance (or just because I follow Linus, which I do) rather than by clicking the link, most of the really vile replies are blocked because they come from some really obnoxious cesspool instances. If you click the link and read it on social.kernel.org you see it all.
@ernie Nobody tell the techbros who owns the means of production in FOSS (and what that means in the grand scheme), their little heads might burst.
@ernie I read too far down. Is this basically what twitter has become?
@ernie holy crap that thread went aggressively Nazi quickly, it was just sprayed with the hate brush immediately.
@ernie Imagine if Linus *wasn't* "woke". Would be a lot of awkwardness. Worldwide.
@ernie Real question here is why social.kernel.org federades with #Nazi instance poa.st

@AstaMcCarthy @ernie

That is what I was wondering. Why the hell isn't social.kernel.org de-federated from poa.st?

Clearly social.kernel.org is very poorly moderated indeed.

@ernie big ups to Linus as always.

Despite the recommendation I scrolled down anyways... I just got out of bed and now I want to go back to it...

@ernie This makes me proud to be a Linux user.
@ernie I have my issues with Torvalds (being a Mac user) but he just became my hero.
@ernie Which part gets uglier than the hatred they say they are against?

@ernie

Why would you recommend anyone, in reality, not "scroll down too far" (commas are your friend, get to know them).

You may not get how gross that is, but it is gross.

Catholic priests tell their rape victims not to do things. Under the immoral guise of protecting them.

Don't put words out in the world, that you have to warn anyone about. That's sick.

@putnamca I was just trying to warn people that Linus’ server isn’t blocking very much stuff. All I was trying to do. Instead of attacking me, consider it was my feeble attempt to put a trigger warning in front of people.

It is very easy to not be an jerk on here. Try it sometime.

@putnamca Unlike other services, that server does not allow me to link to the exact post, so I had to link the full thread. That thread had awful stuff in it, and that server apparently has chosen not to fediblock very many things.

I wanted to link the very positive thing Linus said, but acknowledge I was indirectly linking to something that was not very good.

That’s all. Period.

@ernie Fair. Was not an an attack, just asking for clarification. Thanks.

@putnamca I tweaked the wording to be more obvious.

Generally: One of my least favorite things about a thread going viral on Twitter is someone misreading the original post or finding fault in it long after the fact. At least I can edit a thread like that on here.

@ernie My language was hyperbolic, and I apologize.
@ernie Thank you. Emotions are high, and you aren't my enemy.
